Retrospective Preliminary Assessment of Routine Follow-Up Low-Field Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Dogs Presumptively Diagnosed With Discospondylitis.

Background: The usefulness of routine follow-up Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI-2) in asymptomatic dogs treated for discospondylitis is unknown.

Methods: This cross-sectional retrospective study investigated the features of MRI-2 in a heterogeneous group of dogs treated for discospondylitis, and if these were associated with the presence or absence of clinical signs. After comparing initial MRI (MRI-1) and MRI-2, an observer, blinded to the dog's clinical signs, described the MRI-2 findings.

Myelopathy secondary to an intramedullary arteriovenous malformation in a mature dog.

A 2-year-old crossbreed dog was presented for evaluation of a 6-week history of progressive paraparesis. Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography angiography of the thoracic and lumbar spinal cord disclosed multifocal, anomalous, small, vascular structures, distributed throughout the subarachnoid space of the included section of the spinal cord. An additional focal intramedullary lesion was identified extending from T9 to T10 to T12.

Diagnosis of Chediak Higashi disease in a 67-year old woman.

Chediak-Higashi disease is a rare disease caused by bi-allelic mutations in the lysosomal trafficking regulator gene, LYST. Individuals typically present in early childhood with partial oculocutaneous albinism, a bleeding diathesis, recurrent infections secondary to immune dysfunction, and risk of developing hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). Without intervention, mortality is high in the first decade of life.

Factors associated with family violence against adolescents based on the results of the National School Health Survey (PeNSE).

The study analyzes factors associated with family aggression against adolescents. Data from the National School Health Survey for 2015 were analyzed, and the prevalence of physical aggression per family was calculated according to four blocks. The bivariate analysis was performed, calculating the unadjusted Odds Ratio (OR) within each block and the multivariate regression.

Nursing process in mental health: an integrative literature review.

Objective:: to identify evidences from the literature on the application of nursing process in care developed by the nurse in mental health.

Methods to determine the internal length of nasogastric feeding tubes: An integrative review.

Objectives: Improper placement of nasogastric tube used for feeding may lead to serious complications, including death of the patient. There are several different methods used to determine the appropriate length of nasogastric tube for optimal placement in adults. This integrative review of the literature was designed to identify the most accurate method to determine the internal length of nasogastric feeding tube in adults.

[The inclusion of sexuality as an essential aspect of comprehensive care for individuals with mental disorders].

The scope of this study was to understand the representations of mental health service patients and professionals concerning the sexuality of the former. Thirty-nine patients and 54 professionals of the public mental health services, divided up into six focal groups, were interviewed individually. Data analysis was based on the Structural Analysis of Narrative technique.

Chronic non-communicable diseases, risk and health promotion: social construction of VIGITEL participants.

The dimension of choice and adherence to healthy lifestyles is in the area of social constructions made in representations of individuals and had not yet been included in the Surveillance of Risk and Protective Factors for Chronic Diseases by Telephone Survey (VIGITEL) analysis systems. This article aims to understand, in individual narratives, representations contained in the trajectories of people's lives selected from the 2010 VIGITEL sample, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. It is a qualitative study based on Social Representation Theory.

Health professionals in the process of vaccination against hepatitis B in two basic units of Belo Horizonte: a qualitative evaluation.

According to the Vaccine Coverage Survey, performed in 2007, the immunization coverage against hepatitis B in Belo Horizonte, for infants under one year old, was below the level proposed by the Brazilian National Program of Immunization. This vaccine was used as basis for evaluating the involvement of health professionals in the process of vaccination in two Basic Health Units (UBS, acronym in Portuguese) in the city. This study is qualitative and uses the notions of Social Representations Theory and the method of Structural Analysis of Narrative to carry out the interviews and data analysis.

[Anthropometric measures for the introduction of the nasogastric tube for enteral nutrition employing the esophagogastroduodenoscopy].

Background: The correct placement of a nasogastric tube for enteral nutrition is subject of several investigations, demonstrating the controversy of the procedure.

Aim: To establish an external measure that can correspond to the internal measurement which determines the insertion length of nasogastric feeding tube up to the stomach.

Methods: External measures were obtained between points: nose tip vs earlobe vs xiphoid appendix vs umbilicus and height correlated with the standard measures obtained from patients undergoing diagnostic esophagogastroduodenoscopy.

[Health Behavior in a population with HIV/Aids].

This is a descriptive exploratory research, with quantitative approach and transversal cut. The purpose was to identify behaviors in aged population HIV/Aids infected and also to analyze association with sex. Regarding the content, a tested and validated instrument was used.

Glutathione peroxidase 1 Pro198Leu polymorphism in Brazilian Alzheimer's disease patients: relations to the enzyme activity and to selenium status.

Background/aims: Oxidative stress plays a central role in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Pro198Leu cytosolic glutathione peroxidase (GPx1) polymorphism seems to be associated with a lower activity of this enzyme, but there are no studies with AD patients. Thus, the aim was to determine the frequency of the GPx1 Pro198Leu polymorphism in AD patients and to verify its relation to glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity and selenium (Se) status.

[Case study as a strategy for teaching the nursing process and the use of standardized language].

The Nursing education is still strongly related to the biomedical model, although there were efforts to structure a Nursing perspective in this context. This paper aims to describe an experience of teaching, which used the case study to discuss Nursing process, care and use of standardized language. This experience was developed with 35 students at the fifth semester of nursing undergraduate at a public university in São Paulo, Brazil.

[Barriers and facilitators aspects of adherence to antiretroviral therapy in Belo Horizonte-MG].

The aim of this study was to know the constraining and facilitating aspects of adherence to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) among people with HIV/AIDS. This was a qualitative study, carried out with 26 individuals receiving HAART and assisted by a referral service in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The analysis of the interviews regarding the constraints found by users, resulted in categories relating to Day-by-day life, HIV representations, and the complexity of the treatment.

[Evaluation of the implementation of Kangaroo Care by health administrators, professionals, and mothers of newborn infants].

This was a qualitative evaluation study aimed at both shedding light on the challenges and facilitating implementation of Kangaroo Care in Ministry of Health-accredited maternity care facilities in Brazil, from the standpoint of healthcare professionals and administrators and mothers of low birth weight newborns. Semi-structured on-site interviews were conducted at the maternity centers. The study used structural narrative analysis with the data analysis method.

Can manual hyperinflation maneuvers cause aspiration of oropharyngeal secretions in patients under mechanical ventilation?

Background And Objectives: To evaluate whether manual hyperinflation maneuvers can cause aspiration of oropharyngeal secretions in patients under mechanical ventilation.

Methods: Adult patients under mechanical ventilation in whom a dye was injected in the oropharyngeal cavity and had their tracheal secretion aspirated after 30 minutes (min) participated in this study. In the event of dye slid, the patient was eliminated.

Representations of primary care professionals about the occupational risk of HIV infection.

This was a qualitative study, based on the Social Representations Theory, with professionals that work in primary care, about the risk of HIV infection to which they are exposed in their quotidian work routine. Twelve physicians and nurses who work in two Health Centers in the city of Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil, were interviewed. The final analysis, carried out using the saturation of information criterion, was based on the method proposed by Structural Analysis of Narrative.
