The chromosomes of the dogtooth characins, fish species of the family Cynodontidae, have only a relatively small amount of heterochromatin, including the terminal portion. Curiously, in the cynodontid , the terminal portion is rich in repetitive DNAs, including transposable retroelements and microsatellite sequences.
