Introduction: Oxygen is frequently prescribed in neurocritical care units. Avoiding hypoxaemia is a key objective in patients with acute brain injury (ABI). However, several studies suggest that hyperoxaemia may also be related to higher mortality and poor neurological outcomes in these patients.

Germinal matrix-intraventricular hemorrhage (GM-IVH) is one of the most severe complications of prematurity, and these children are prone to suffer short- and long-term sequelae, including cerebral palsy, cognitive and motor impairments, or neuropsychiatric disorders.

Clinical outcomes after CPX-351 in patients with high-risk acute myeloid leukemia: A comparison with a matched cohort from the Spanish PETHEMA registry.

Background: CPX-351 is approved for the treatment of therapy related acute myeloid leukemia (t-AML) and AML with myelodysplastic related changes (MRC-AML). The benefits of this treatment over standard chemotherapy has not been addressed in well matched cohorts of real-life patients.

Background: Controlled donation after circulatory determination of death (cDCD) seems an effective way to mitigate the critical shortage of available organs for transplant worldwide. As a recently developed procedure for organ retrieval, some questions remain unsolved such as the uncertainty regarding the effect of functional warm ischemia time (FWIT) on organs´ viability.

Methods: We developed a multicenter prospective cohort study collecting all data from evaluated organs during cDCD from 2017 to 2020.

Hippocampal-dependent memories emerge late during postnatal development, aligning with hippocampal maturation. During sleep, the two-stage memory formation model states that through hippocampal-neocortical interactions, cortical slow-oscillations (SO), thalamocortical Spindles, and hippocampal sharp-wave ripples (SWR) are synchronized, allowing for the consolidation of hippocampal-dependent memories. Disease-Related Malnutrition and Sarcopenia Predict Worse Outcome in Medical Inpatients: A Cohort Study.

It has been suggested that 1-2% of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) patients present variant rearrangements of retinoic acid receptor alpha (RARα) fusion gene, with the promyelocytic leukaemia zinc finger (PLZF)/RAR being the most frequent. Resistance to all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) and arsenic trioxide (ATO) has been suggested in PLZF/RAR and other variant APLs. Herein, we analyze the incidence, characteristics, and outcomes of variant APLs reported to the multinational PETHEMA (Programa para el Tratamiento de Hemopatias Malignas) registry, and we perform a systematic review in order to shed light on strategies to improve management of these extremely rare diseases.

MicroRNA Profiling and Bioinformatics Target Analysis in Dorsal Hippocampus of Chronically Stressed Rats: Relevance to Depression Pathophysiology.

Studies conducted in rodents subjected to chronic stress and some observations in humans after psychosocial stress, have allowed to establish a link between stress and the susceptibility to many complex diseases, including mood disorders. The studies in rodents have revealed that chronic exposure to stress negatively affects synaptic plasticity by triggering changes in the production of trophic factors, subunit levels of glutamate ionotropic receptors, neuron morphology, and neurogenesis in the adult hippocampus. These modifications may account for the impairment in learning and memory processes observed in chronically stressed animals.

Gender differences in alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs use in Mexico are rapidly disappearing. This study explores the possible relationship between engaging in romantic relationships on substance use offers and the moderating effects of gender among a group of adolescents (N = 432) living in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The data used to test these relationships were collected through self-administered surveys in 2010.

Cardioprotective effect of sevoflurane and propofol during anaesthesia and the postoperative period in coronary bypass graft surgery: a double-blind randomised study.

Context: Volatile anaesthetics may have direct cardioprotective properties due to effects similar to ischaemic preconditioning and postconditioning. Clinical results in cardiac surgery patients are controversial and may be related to the timing of administration of anaesthetics intraoperatively.

Objective: We hypothesised that the cardioprotective effect of sevoflurane in coronary bypass graft surgical patients would be greater if administration during anaesthesia continued in the ICU for at least 4 h postoperatively until weaning from mechanical ventilation.

Reported is the synthesis of a number of diastereomerically pure cationic Rh(I)-complexes I starting from phosphinite thioglycosides. Background: The Anesthetic Conserving Device--AnaConDa® (ACD)--has been compared with a conventional vaporizer. However, the accuracy of the administered concentration of volatile anesthetics was not examined. In the present study we measured the accuracy of the ACD when used as a portable vaporizer.

[Inflammatory malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the spermatic cord infiltrating an inguinal leiomyoma. Case report with conceptual and bibliographic reviews].

Objectives: To study paratesticular malignant fibrous histiocytomas (FHM) from the clinical, histological, immunohistochemical and histogenetic, point of view.

Methods: Through Medline and not index-linked search of international scientific literature we have found a total of 77 cases of paratesticular FHM that globally create diagnostic, terminological and therapeutic problems.

Results: We include the case number 78 of FHM of spermatic cord, that presents a few special characteristics (not described before) of cutaneous fistula and infiltration of an inguinal leiomyoma, with histological and immunohistochemical confirmation.

Epidural anesthesia for laminectomy lead placement in spinal cord stimulation.

Background: Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is used to treat chronic pain and requires an awake patient for optimized lead positioning to locate paresthesias. Epidural anesthesia may be a suitable anesthetic but has not been evaluated.

Methods: We performed an open-label, prospective, observational, single-center study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of laminectomy lead placement under epidural anesthesia for the treatment of neuropathic chronic pain.

We have analyzed the relative orientation of basic amino acid side chains towards DNA in the nucleosome core particle. The electric field created by DNA phosphates has no apparent preferential orientation: no favored orientation of the arginine guanidinium group is found. Arginine may be either directly hydrogen bonded to a phosphate oxygen or stabilized in the minor groove by van der Waals contacts and the local negative electric field.

[A prospective, controlled, non-randomized study of three cohorts to test the effectiveness of two antibiotics levofloxacin and cotrimoxazol on antibacterial prophylaxis in neutropenic patients].

Background And Objective: At present, there is strong concern about the efficacy of current antimicrobial prophylaxis for the management of neutropenic patients. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of levofloxacin, a new quinolone with expanded activity against grampositive bacteria, versus cotrimoxazol as a prophylactic treatment for granulocytopenic patients.

Patients And Method: In this prospective and controlled study, we included 249 consecutive episodes of neutropenia, such as those resulting from lymphoma and leukemia treatment, during 28 months (from November 1999 to February 2002).
