Background: An inflammatory milieu after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation is associated with multi-organ dysfunction and pre-operative heightened inflammatory state is associated with right ventricular failure after LVAD implantation.

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 30 LVAD patients in our institution within the last 2 years for the development of fever and compared them to 30 non-LVAD open-heart surgery patients.

Results: Our results suggest that patients undergoing LVAD implantation are more likely to develop fever in the immediate post-operative period compared to other open-heart surgeries.

Prolonged use of fluoroscopy during catheter ablation (CA) of arrhythmias is associated with a significant exposure to ionizing radiation and risk of orthopedic injuries given the need for heavy protective equipment. CA of ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) arising from the left ventricular (LV) summit is challenging, requiring a vast knowledge of the intricate cardiac anatomy of this area and careful imaging delineation of the different anatomical structures, which is frequently performed using fluoroscopic guidance. Certain techniques, including pericardial mapping and ablation, use of intracoronary wires, and mapping and ablation inside the coronary venous system have been proposed, further prolonging fluoroscopy time.

Idiopathic ventricular arrhythmias (VA), particularly left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) VA accounts for up to 10% of all VAs referred for ablative therapy. In addition to being infrequent, its intricate anatomy and its pathophysiology make catheter ablation (CA) of these arrhythmias a challenge even for experts. In this scenario, detailed right ventricular outflow tract as well as LVOT electroanatomic mapping including epicardial mapping are essential.

The teacher’s didactic intervention also requires knowledge and control of learning tasks’ workloads. The objectives of the study were as follows: (i) to quantify the subjective external load-eTL of tasks framed in didactic units designed by in-service teachers; and (ii) to analyze the differences in the subjective eTL according to the game situation and the game space. A total of 306 learning tasks designed by seven in-service teachers (five men and two women), with more than 10 years of teaching practice, were analyzed.

Aims: The aim of this study is to provide guidance for the clinical interpretation of electrocardiograms (ECGs) in prone position and to establish the electroanatomic explanations for the possible differences to supine position ECGs that may be observed. Additionally, to determine if prone back ECG can be used as an alternative to standard ECG in patients who may benefit from prone position.

Methods And Results: The ECG in supine (standard ECG), prone back (precordial leads placed on the patient's back), and prone anterior position (precordial leads placed in the standard position with the subjects in prone position) were prospectively examined on 85 subjects.

Today, it is important for physical education teachers to know students’ motivation profiles for learning. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze achievement motivation according to four variables: students’ sex, the taught sport modality, students’ experience and teaching methodology. Likewise, the effects of students’ sex and experience on the methodologies applied were analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • Physical education teachers need affordable and effective methods to monitor students' exercise intensity, so this study explored the relationship between objective and subjective measures of intensity in physical activities like soccer and basketball involving 95 students.
  • The study utilized both objective tools (like heart rate monitors) and subjective measures (like perceived exertion ratings) to collect data, resulting in 3956 analysis units, with findings showing significant positive correlations between the two types of intensity measurements.
  • While some negative correlations were observed in specific game situations, the overall results suggest that subjective techniques could be practical and useful alternatives for monitoring student intensity in physical education classes, making them easier to implement in school settings.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how different teaching methodologies in Physical Education, specifically for basketball, affect students' physical fitness and exertion levels.
  • Three methods were compared: Tactical Games Approach (TGA), Direct Instruction (DI), and Service Teacher's Basketball Unit (STBU), with 49 sixth-grade students monitored for physical activity and heart rate.
  • Results show that TGA led to higher external and internal load values, indicating better intensity and fitness outcomes, particularly for students with no prior basketball experience.

Coronary intraluminal white clot formation, apparently in response to acetylcholine testing, may explain a woman's long-term history of daily chest pain and multiple myocardial infarctions. Acetylcholine testing reproduced chest pain and revealed luminal filling defects in multiple vessels; imaging showed fresh white platelet clots. Antiplatelet prasugrel has substantially suppressed her symptoms.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the connection between COVID-19 and T-wave inversion (TWI) in patients, finding that TWI is commonly observed in those infected with COVID-19 and may signal severe cardiac issues.
  • - Out of 3,225 screened patients, 195 were analyzed, revealing a significant mortality rate (26%) and high need for invasive mechanical ventilation (30%), especially in those with TWI and elevated troponin levels.
  • - Results suggest that new TWI or T-wave pseudonormalization, especially when coupled with elevated troponin, correlates with increased risks of mechanical ventilation and higher in-hospital mortality rates.

The study of declarative and procedural knowledge makes it possible to ascertain what cognitive processes are like during motor learning. This study aimed to compare, according to the methodology, gender and experience (football practise), and the levels of declarative and procedural knowledge after the implementation of two intervention programmes on school football including one based on the tactics learning and the other on the technique learning. A total of 41 students in the 5th year of primary education from a state school from Spain, distributed in two class groups, participated in the study.

Background: Previous studies suggest that medical students may have higher rates of irritable bowel syndrome as compared to the general population. We hypothesized lifestyle characteristics may be associated to irritable bowel syndrome.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2015 among students in their fourth, fifth, sixth and seven years of a medical school in Peru.

Planning the learning task is one of the principal actions that a teacher should engage in, and it is important to know how teachers in the pre-service phase plan learning and communication tasks and the feedback that they use in the classroom. The aim of the present study was twofold: i) to characterize the learning tasks designed by the pre-service physical education teachers; and ii) to identify the relationships between the variables that define the learning tasks and the phases into which a session is structured in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) in the pre-service phase. The sample comprised 695 learning tasks designed by fourteen pre-service phase teachers.

Liver involvement is usually seen in patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), especially in patients coinfected with hepatitis B or C, in alcohol abuse, etc. However, there is a group of patients who develop liver involvement and portal hypertension of unspecified cause. Non-cirrhotic portal hypertension (NCPH) is a liver disorder recently described, but potentially serious.
