- Of the 100 patients evaluated, 51% were malnourished, and a higher neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were tied to worse nutritional status and increased risk of toxicity.
- Key toxicities observed included alopecia, nausea, and anemia, with malnourished patients and those with low albumin levels experiencing significantly more toxic effects compared to non-malnourished individuals.
A critical review of recent international literature related to the use of intradialytic parenteral nutrition is given. The role of intradialytic parenteral nutrition as a therapy in malnourished hemodialysis patients is established and the need for systematic monitoring of this population at high risk of malnutrition is emphasized.
