Invasive lobular carcinoma is the second most common histologic form of breast cancer, representing 5% to 15% of all invasive breast cancers. Due to an insidious proliferative pattern, invasive lobular carcinoma remains clinically and radiologically elusive in many cases. Breast magnetic resonance imaging (MR) is considered the most accurate imaging modality in detecting and staging invasive lobular carcinoma and it is strongly recommended in pre-operative planning for all ILC.

Inhibitory Effect of and Autochtonous Strains against in a Laboratory Cheese Model.

In the present study, six and seven strains isolated from artisanal Sardinian dairy products were evaluated for their efficacy in controlling the growth of during the storage of miniature fresh cheese manufactured on a laboratory scale to exploit their possible use as biopreservatives. The strains were tested for antimicrobial activity and some technological characteristics before using them in miniature fresh cheese to evaluate their in situ antilisterial effect. Our results showed that five strains ( 16FS16-9/20234-11FS16 and 1/14537-4A/20045) could be considered suitable candidates for use as protective cultures in fresh cheese manufacture since they significantly lowered the pathogen counts by 3-4 log units compared to the control; however, all strains tested were capable of decreasing numbers.

Phytosterols are sterols naturally occurring in plant cells and well known for their cholesterollowering activity, as witnessed by the large number of food supplements based on these functional ingredients available on the market. However, the marked hydrophobic character of phytosterols makes their solubility in biological fluids extremely low, with disadvantageous consequences on the bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy. In this work, we explore the effect of particle size reduction on the water solubility of stigmasterol, one of the most abundant phytosterols, through the formulation of nanocystals.

Drug-Excipients Compatibility Studies in Proniosomal Formulation: A Case Study with Resveratrol.

Proniosomal drug delivery system is one of the advancements in nanotechnology. Similarly to traditional dosage forms, chemical and physical compatibility of proniosomes components with the active ingredient(s) is a key step in the preformulation process of such systems. Formulation of Liposomes Containing Royal Jelly and Their Quality Assessment.

Royal jelly, a gelatinuous consistency bee product produced and secreted by the hypopharyngeal and mandibular glands of worker honeybees, is beneficial in the treatment of dermatological conditions, likely through its content of the fatty acid 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid (10-HDA). However, 10-HAD poorly penetrates into skin. Thus, in this work, we produced royal jelly incorporated liposomes with the aim of increasing skin penetration of 10-HDA.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective evaluation of subjects with asthma or COPD who underwent pulmonary rehabilitation.

The aim of this work was to ascertain the ability of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) to deliver drug nanocrystals through the produced aerosol. A nanocrystal nanosuspension of beclomethasone dipropionate, a synthetic chlorinated corticosteroid diester commonly used by inhalation in the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, was prepared with a wet media milling technique using Poloxamer 188 as stabilizer. The obtained nanosuspension was thoroughly characterized by different techniques: transmission electron microscopy, photon correlation spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffractometry and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.

Resveratrol and artemisinin eudragit-coated liposomes: A strategy to tackle intestinal tumors.

Resveratrol and artemisinin, two naturally occurring compounds with a wide range of biological activities, have been reported to exert antitumor effects against several types of cancer. In this work, Eudragit-coated liposomes were developed to safely transport resveratrol and artemisinin through the gastrointestinal tract and target the intestine. The physico-chemical properties of the Eudragit-coated liposomes were assessed by light scattering and cryogenic transmission electron microscopy.

Influence of Autochthonous Putative Probiotic Cultures on Microbiota, Lipid Components and Metabolome of Caciotta Cheese.

The present study was undertaken to produce probiotic Caciotta cheeses from pasteurized ewes' milk by using different combinations of autochthonous microbial cultures, containing putative probiotic strains, and evaluate their influence on gross composition, lipid components, sensory properties and microbiological and metabolite profiles of the cheeses throughout ripening process. A control cheese was produced using commercial starter cultures. The hydrophilic molecular pools (mainly composed by amino acids, organic acids, and carbohydrates) were characterized by means of H NMR spectroscopy, while the cholesterol, α-tocopherol and fatty acid composition by HPLC-DAD/ELSD techniques.

Genetically driven CD39 expression shapes human tumor-infiltrating CD8 T-cell functions.

In our study, we investigated the role of CD39 on tumor-infiltrating CD8 T lymphocytes (CD8 TILs) in colorectal, head and neck and pancreatic cancers. Partially confirming recent observations correlating the CD39 expression with T-cell exhaustion, we demonstrated a divergent functional activity in CD39 CD8 TILs. On the one hand, CD39 CD8 TILs (as compared to their CD39 counterparts) produced significantly lower IFN-γ and IL-2 amounts, expressed higher PD-1, and inversely correlated with perforin and granzyme B expression.

Metabolic response of yellow mealworm larvae to two alternative rearing substrates.

Introduction: Mass insect rearing is becoming increasingly pursued by food and feed industry due to its high sustainability and low environmental impact. Yellow mealworm larvae (Tenebrio molitor) are conventionally reared on wheat bran (WB), but alternative substrates, such as several by-products of the agri-food industry, have shown good prospects for insect rearing.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to investigate on the metabolic and nutritional response of yellow mealworm larvae to dried brewer's spent grains (BSG) and WB used as rearing substrates.
