Essential oils (EOs) are volatile compounds that may have antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Despite their potential application, low water solubility and chemical instability are limiting factors. Nanoencapsulation processes can overcome this problem, protecting against external factors and promoting a moderate release.

Article Synopsis
  • Plant essential oils (EOs) show strong antimicrobial properties, but their antiviral effects against avian coronaviruses are not well studied, making them a good alternative when chemical treatments are not an option.
  • This study tested six different EOs against avian coronavirus (AvCov) at two different dilutions (0.1% and 1%) to see how effective they were at inhibiting virus replication.
  • At the 1% dilution, EOs from certain plants completely blocked AvCov replication, while at the lower dilution, effects were limited; further research is needed to understand how these EOs work and how they might be applied to fight other coronaviruses.
