Introduction Virologic failure due to antiretroviral drug resistance is a threat to efforts to control the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic. Understanding the factors that influence the genetic and clinical expression of drug resistance is fundamental for infection control. Methods A nested case-control study was conducted on a cohort of adult HIV patients between 2016 and 2022.

Bacillus clausii Bacteremia Following Probiotic Use: A Report of Two Cases.

The use of probiotics to improve bacterial flora and achieve control of diarrheal episodes is a common practice in outpatients and hospitalized patients. In most cases, related adverse events are few and not life-threatening. However, cases of bacteremia associated with the use of these substances have been described, mainly in the pediatric population in which their prescription is more common.

Background: In 2020, the Global Cancer Observatory reported 280,000 cases of childhood cancer worldwide, with a higher burden of disease and mortality rates in low- and middle-income countries. In 2022, the National Institute of Health reported 1708 new cases of childhood cancer in Colombia and an overall survival rate of approximately 55%. The aim of this study is to compare outcomes in children with cancer in the hospital setting during the last 72 h of life who received concurrent Pediatric Palliative Care (PPC) versus oncology care alone.

Survival in Elderly Patients Diagnosed With Acute Myeloid Leukemia: A Hospital-Based Study.

Background: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a hematological neoplasm that is more frequent in elderly patients. Background: Most children needing palliative care (PC) live in low- and middle-income countries. In Colombia, pediatric palliative care (PPC) knowledge among healthcare professionals (HCPs) is lacking as PPC is not included in the educational curricula of healthcare programs. Challenges of dengue and coronavirus disease 2019 coinfection: two case reports.

Background: Dengue fever and coronavirus disease 2019 have now begun to overlap within tropical and subtropical regions. This is due to the high prevalence of dengue fever in these regions and the current severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 pandemic situation. The similarity of symptoms between the two diseases can confuse diagnoses, but coinfection can also occur.

Trends of Seroprevalence of Chagas´s diseases in healthy blood donors, solid organ donors and heart transplant recipients: experience of a single health care center in Colombia.

The prevalence of Chagas disease has decreased in the Americas region due to vector control measures. However, non-vectorial transmission through blood transfusions and organ transplantation has gained importance in recent years. Screening among blood and organ donors are essential to reduce transmission and could provide information to estimate population prevalence.
