Case report: Cannabinoid therapy for discoid lupus erythematosus in a dog.

Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is a common autoimmune skin disease in dogs. Conventional treatments, such as corticosteroids, can be effective but often have side effects. This case report presents a successful use of cannabinoid therapy (CT) in a dog with DLE resistant to conventional treatment.

Non-coding RNAs repressive role in post-transcriptional processing of RUNX2 during the acquisition of the osteogenic phenotype of periodontal ligament mesenchymal stem cells.

Mesenchymal stem cells are candidates for therapeutic strategies in periodontal repair due to their osteogenic potential. In this study, we identified epigenetic markers during osteogenic differentiation, taking advantage of the individual pattern of mesenchymal cells of the periodontal ligament with high (h-PDLCs) and low (l-PDLCs) osteogenic capacity. We found that the involvement of non-coding RNAs in the regulation of the RUNX2 gene is strongly associated with high osteogenic potential.

Translation and cultural adaptation of the Breast Cancer Treatment Outcome Scale (BCTOS) into Brazilian Portuguese.

Background: Breast conservative treatment (BCT) is safe when it is performed in association with radiotherapy. The number of referral for BCT has increased, and it has become an important treatment modality. Patients who undergo BCT present some characteristics that are associated with better quality of life compared with patients who undergo mastectomy without reconstruction.

The economic burden of opioid prescription by dentists: A 12-month survey of consumer expenditure in Brazil.

Objectives: To describe consumer expenditure on opioids prescribed by dentists in Brazil during a 12-month period.

Methods: We surveyed individual dispensed prescriptions of opioids in private pharmacies from October 2012 to September 2013. A descriptive analysis of costs included a calculation of the overall and mean maximum price to consumers.

Tooth wear and sleep quality: A study of police officers and non-police officers.

Objective: A cross-sectional study was performed to assess the prevalence of tooth wear facets and sleep disorders.

Methods: The sample was divided into two groups: Group I: police officers (n = 144), and Group II: industrial workers (n = 142). A self-reported questionnaire, a clinical examination recorded in the dental records, and the Brazilian version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Questionnaire Index were used for data collection.

Association between IL1B (+3954) polymorphisms and IL-1β levels in blood and saliva, together with acute graft-versus-host disease.

Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is associated with morbidity and mortality in the recipients of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplants (allo-HSCTs). Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) is a potent inflammatory mediator involved in different inflammatory conditions. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the association of IL1B gene polymorphism in recipients and donors in cases in which acute GVHD (aGVHD) has been reported and the impact of this gene polymorphism on the level of cytokines in the blood and saliva.

First description of a cluster of acute/subacute paracoccidioidomycosis cases and its association with a climatic anomaly.

Background: Identifying clusters of acute paracoccidioidomycosis cases could potentially help in identifying the environmental factors that influence the incidence of this mycosis. However, unlike other endemic mycoses, there are no published reports of clusters of paracoccidioidomycosis.

Methodology/principal Findings: A retrospective cluster detection test was applied to verify if an excess of acute form (AF) paracoccidioidomycosis cases in time and/or space occurred in Botucatu, an endemic area in São Paulo State.

Background: Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is Latin America's most prevalent systemic mycosis, carrying an important social burden. Its agent, Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, has rarely been identified in nature. Studies characterizing acute/subacute PCM incidence and their relationship with climate variables are not available.
