Progression to advanced fibrosis marks the emergence of a significant risk of liver-related negative outcomes. However, only a minority of patients will present at this stage.

How do random superficial defects influence the electro-oxidation of glycerol on Pt(111) surfaces?

The glycerol electrooxidation reaction (GEOR) has attracted huge interest in the last decade due to the very low price and availability of this polyol. In this work, we studied the GEOR on Pt(111) electrodes by introducing different densities of random defects. Our results showed that the generation of defects on Pt(111) slightly modified the GEOR onset potential, however it generates changes in the voltammetric oxidation charges and also in the relative production of CO to carbonyl containing compounds, C[double bond, length as m-dash]O.

[Religious-spiritual coping and the consumption of alcoholic beverages in male patients with liver disease].

This cross-sectional study was performed with the objective to evaluate the use of Religious Spiritual Coping (RSC) and verify its relationship with the pattern of alcoholic beverage consumption in patients attending a liver disease outpatient clinic between April and December of 2009, using the CAGE, AUDIT and RSC Scale. Associations were observed between negative religious-spiritual coping (NRSC) and the consumption of alcoholic beverages over the last year and with the resulting combination. Subjects identified as negative CAGE with low-risk consumption over the last year had a frequency above the expected in the category below the median.

Electrochemical behavior of aqueous acid perrhenate-containing solutions on noble metals: critical review and new experimental evidence.

The actual state of the art in the reduction of perrhenate ions on noble metals is reviewed and discussed. Also, with the aim of contributing to better knowledge of this process, results of several experiments are presented. For the first time, spectroscopic evidence on the nature of the deposited rhenium layer on Pt and Rh and the detection of an intermediate in the reduction pathway toward metallic rhenium is provided.
