COVID-19-associated Guillain-Barré syndrome in the early pandemic experience in Lombardia (Italy).

Objective: To estimate the incidence and describe clinical characteristics and outcome of GBS in COVID-19 patients (COVID19-GBS) in one of the most hit regions during the first pandemic wave, Lombardia.

Methods: Adult patients admitted to 20 Neurological Units between 1/3-30/4/2020 with COVID19-GBS were included as part of a multi-center study organized by the Italian society of Hospital Neuroscience (SNO).

Results: Thirty-eight COVID19-GBS patients had a mean age of 60.

Efficacy and safety of intravenous immunoglobulin as adjuvant treatment for refractory neuropathic pain. Results of an open-label, multicenter study.

Introduction:   Neuropathic pain is frequently associated with many peripheral nervous system diseases and its successful treatment is an area of significant and critical unmet need.

Methods:   Twenty adult outpatients of both sexes who had been suffering from painful polyneuropathy resistant to conventional therapies for at least 6 months and up to a maximum of 5 years and who reported severity of pain >60 units on a visual analog scale (VAS) at baseline were included in this open-label pilot study. Patients were randomly 1:1 allocated to receive adjuvant intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) (Flebogamma®, 2 g/kg) in addition to their regular therapy or to continue with the previous therapy (control group).

Longitudinal assessment of grey matter contraction in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: A tensor based morphometry study.

Our objective was to investigate grey matter (GM) contraction in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) using tensor based morphometry (TBM). Using a 1.5 Tesla scanner, T1-weighted MRI scans were obtained at baseline and at follow-up (mean interval, 9 months) from 16 ALS and 10 controls.

Follow-up of a large population of asymptomatic/oligosymptomatic hyperckemic subjects.

Six years before the present study we performed a retrospective study of 114 subjects presenting with asymptomatic / oligosymptomatic hyperckemia (raised creatine kinase blood levels), a diagnosis being made in 21 of them. We now present the results of a long-term follow-up in 55 of the still undiagnosed 93 individuals. Most of them have remained asymptomatic and did not develop specific neuromuscular disorders.
