Introduction: Common bile duct stones (CBDS) can spontaneously migrate through the duodenal papilla. In this case, ERCP could be unnecessary and a significant rate of complications could be avoided. In this study, we aim at retrospectively evaluating the rate of spontaneous stone passage in patients with an imaging diagnosis of CBDS and at analysing the factors associated to spontaneous stone migration.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Maria E Bottiglieri"

  • - Maria E Bottiglieri's research primarily focuses on optimizing medical procedures related to gastrointestinal issues, with a significant emphasis on minimizing unnecessary interventions and related complications.
  • - In her 2022 study, she highlighted the considerable rate of spontaneous migration of common bile duct stones, suggesting that many endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatographies (ERCPs) could be avoided, thus reducing complications.
  • - Bottiglieri's earlier work in 2015 investigated bowel cleansing quality in hospitalized patients undergoing colonoscopy, examining factors that contribute to inadequate preparation in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
