Biofilms are complex microbial structures that have a significant impact on human health, industry and the environment. These complex structures represent one of the main mechanisms of microbial resistance, and their development constitutes a serious health problem. Therefore, the aim of this study was to verify the potential for inhibition and eradication of bacterial biofilm by salosodine, which is a steroidal alkaloid sapogenin found in plants of the Solanum genus.

Infectious diseases that result in biofilm formation have been considered a relevant public health problem due to the potential to increase patient morbidity and mortality, in addition to increasing the burden on health services. Such pathologies are treated with the use of antimicrobial drugs, the indiscriminate use of which has contributed to the process of bacterial resistance, demanding the need to invest in new alternatives to combat them.

Antimicrobial drugs are of great importance in the control of bacterial infections. Its indiscriminate use contributes to the consolidation of bacterial resistance. Its applicability is due to its secondary metabolites, such as saponins, which are compounds with relevant antibacterial action.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA worrisome fact is the increase in microbial resistance, which has as its main cause the indiscriminate use of antibiotics. Scientific studies have investigated bioactive compounds such as steroidal sapogenins, in the perspective of new beneficial alternatives for the control of bacterial resistance. Therefore, the objective of this work was to verify the antibacterial activity as well as the modifying action of antibiotics associated with solasodine and its ability to inhibit the efflux pump mechanism in strains of .

Infrared spectra were recorded in the 750-4000 cm region. The antibacterial effects of these compounds and their modulatory-antibiotic activities were determined using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) test.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the antifungal and modulatory potential of the Ziziphus joazeiro bark and leaf extracts, both in isolation and in association with fluconazole, against resistant species from the Candida genus. Antifungal assays were used to determine the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of the extract in isolation and in combination with fluconazole using the broth microdilution method and spectrophotometric readings, followed by verification of the minimum fungicidal concentration by solid medium subculture. According to the cell viability curve, both extracts inhibited fungal growth in a concentration dependent manner, in addition to showing inhibitory concentrations similar to fluconazole.

The objective of this study was to determine the chelating effect and antioxidant activity of pyrogallol, as well as to evaluate its cytoprotective activity in prokaryotic and eukaryotic models, animal and plant, respectively, against toxic mercury chloride action. Antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH where pyrogallol showed considerable action, chelating even iron ions.

This causes various environmental hazards and human health. Many substances are capable of reversing the toxicity of mercuric chloride in the environment.

Chemical analysis was performed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) as well as the 50% Inhibitory Concentration against Candida strains were determined by microdilution.

Physical properties such as moisture, pH, acidity, peroxide index, relative density and refractive index indicate stability and chemical quality of the oils. In the GC/MS chemical composition analysis, a high unsaturated fatty acid content and the presence of oleic and palmitic acids were observed in the oils.

These products can have antibacterial activity such as d-limonene as described in the literature. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity of d-limonene, isolated and complexed with β-cyclodextrin, and to evaluate its potentiating activity of different antibiotic classes.

The bacterial resistance mechanisms are several, with efflux pumps being one of the main ones. These pumps are membrane proteins with the function of removing antibiotics from the cell cytoplasm.

The minimum inhibitory concentration was determined through the broth microdilution technique using the bacterial strains: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The drugs norfloxacin, imipenem and gentamicin were used in the tests, and the compounds α-bisabolol and β-cyclodextrin; all the compounds were diluted in DMSO.
