Across five studies, we present the preliminary technical validation of an infant-wearable platform, LittleBeats™, that integrates electrocardiogram (ECG), inertial measurement unit (IMU), and audio sensors. Each sensor modality is validated against data from gold-standard equipment using established algorithms and laboratory tasks. Interbeat interval (IBI) data obtained from the LittleBeats™ ECG sensor indicate acceptable mean absolute percent error rates for both adults (Study 1, = 16) and infants (Study 2, = 5) across low- and high-challenge sessions and expected patterns of change in respiratory sinus arrythmia (RSA).

The Complex Assessment of Military Performance (CAMP) is a test battery that more closely approximates the occupational demands of ADSM without specific adherence to a particular branch of service or military occupational specialty. Subtasks were developed with military collaborators to include high level skills that all service members must be able to perform such as reacting quickly, maintaining visual stability while moving and changing positions, and scanning for, noting, and/or remembering operationally relevant information under conditions of physical exertion.

Introduction: Lymphatic filariasis (LF) is a neglected parasitic disease transmitted by mosquitoes and affecting the lymphatic system. The aim of this study was to analyze the epidemiological and sociodemographic characteristics of patients with LF during the last 11 years of available data in Ecuador.
Methods: A 11-year nationwide analysis of hospital admission and in-hospital mortality based on the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) data was conducted in Ecuador from 2011 to 2021.

In two correlational studies conducted in Spain, we explored the impact of participation in the ritual of collective applause (carried out daily for over 70 days during the lockdown) and perceived social norms in fostering behavioural adherence to public health measures, as well as the mediating role of perceived emotional synchrony and a sense of moral obligation. The first study (general population, N = 528) was conducted in June 2020, just after the end of the lockdown, and the second study (students, N = 292) was carried out eight months later.

As an outcome, an octapeptide (KSPFPFAA) was identified which rapidly integrated into the vesicle membrane and, according to its significant accumulation, is obviously connected to a particular advantage of the corresponding functionalized vesicle. Here we report a molecular dynamics study of the structural details of the functionalized vesicle membrane, which was a product of this evolution process and is connected to several survival mechanisms.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Guidelines for clinicians treating military concussion recommend exertional testing before return-to-duty, yet there is currently no standardized task or inclusion of an objective physiological measure like heart rate variability (HRV).
Methodology & Results: We pilot-tested two clinically feasible exertional tasks that include HRV measures and examined reliability of a commercially available heart rate monitor. Testing healthy participants confirmed that the 6-min step test and 2-min pushup test evoked the targeted physiological response, and the Polar H10 was reliable to the gold-standard electrocardiogram.
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is prevalent among veterans with a history of traumatic brain injury (TBI); however, the relationship between TBI and PTSD is not well understood. We present the case of a 31-year-old male veteran with PTSD who reported TBI before entering the military. The reported injury appeared to be mild: He was struck on the head by a baseball, losing consciousness for ∼10 seconds.

Objective: The objective of this quasi-experimental study was to determine the impact of the Promotora Model (PM) as an educational strategy to increase oral health knowledge in parents/caregivers of children aged 2-5 years at high risk for dental caries.
Materials And Methods: Sixty-three caregivers who provided informed consent were included in the study. A structured 37-item survey was administered prior to conducting the Promotora educational intervention (PEI) that covered oral health topics and behaviors.
Background: Autosomal Dominant Optic Atrophy (ADOA) is caused by mutations in the Optic Atrophy 1 Gene which disrupts the OPA1 protein. This disruption affects the normal function of the protein; impairs fusion of the mitochondrial inner membrane; and prevents normal OPA1 protein degradation. These events cause damage in retinal ganglion cells that could affect the patients with symptoms ranging from none to legally blind.

Methods: Newly diagnosed liver tumors cases are registered in the Argentine Pediatric Oncology Hospital Registry (ROHA) with an estimated coverage of 91% of national cases.

A laboratory activity based on the calculation of the oscillation period of a simple pendulum was done with 12 prospective teachers at the University of Extremadura, who were specializing in Biology/Geology, Physics/Chemistry, and Mathematics. When they had finished the activity they filled out a questionnaire about the difficulty, reasoning, capability, and emotions they had experienced in each of the stages needed to resolve the problem.
