Oxycodone (OC) is a schedule II semisynthetic opioid in the USA that is prescribed for its analgesic effects and has a high potential for abuse. Prescriptions for OC vary based on the dosage and formulation, immediate release (IR) and controlled release (CR). Monitoring OC metabolites is beneficial for forensic casework.

The objective of this study was to develop and validate a highly sensitive method for the detection of oxycodone, noroxycodone, 6β-oxycodol, 6α-oxycodol, oxymorphone, and noroxymorphone in blood by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The analytes were extracted from blood (0.5 mL) using Bond Elut Certify Solid Phase Extraction columns, evaporated to dryness and reconstituted before analysis was performed on an Acquity UPLC® I-class coupled to a Waters Xevo TQD.

The purpose of this research was to develop and validate an analytical method for the detection and quantification of noroxymorphone-3β-D-glucuronide (NOMG), oxymorphone-3β-D-glucuronide (NOMG), noroxymorphone (NOM), oxymorphone (OM), 6α-oxycodol (αOCL), 6β-oxycodol (βOCL), noroxycodone (NOC) and oxycodone (OC) in urine by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry to be used in a human study. The method was validated according to the Academy Standards Board Standard Practices for Method Development in Forensic Toxicology. The method was then applied to a single-dose pilot study of a subject.

Amphetamine is frequently detected in forensic toxicological cases. Differentiating between the two isomers of amphetamine (d-amphetamine and l-amphetamine) and determining their relative proportion are fundamental to correctly interpret the results of toxicological analyses. The aim of this study was to examine the profile of amphetamine as well as storage stability of the isomers in authentic samples from patients chronically treated with lisdexamfetamine (LDX), the most prescribed medical amphetamine product in Sweden.

Driving under the influence of alcohol is a major problem for traffic-safety and a popular defence argument is alleged consumption after driving, commonly referred to as the hip-flask defence. Forensic toxicologists are often called as expert witnesses in drinking and driving cases where the suspect has claimed the hip-flask defence, to assess the credibility of the explanation. Several approaches to help the expert have been introduced but the scientific data used to support or challenge this is solely based on data from controlled single doses of ethanol administered during a short time and in abstinent subjects.

Background: Methylphenidate (MPH), along with behavioral and psychosocial interventions, is the first-line medication to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in Sweden. The dose of MPH for good symptom control differs between patients. However, studies of MPH concentration measurement in ADHD treatment are limited.

Pharmacokinetics of antidepressant drugs (ATDs), in terms of steady-state and trough values, in patients from Child and Adolescent Psychiatry centers in the midsouth-eastern part of Sweden, were evaluated, and the use of ATDs in this population were described. Patients to be prescribed an ATD were studied between 2002 and 2004. Two hundred eleven children, 64% girls and 36% boys (ages 8-20 years) were evaluated.

There is limited information on the pharmacokinetics ofziprasidone (ZIP) in naturalistic clinical settings. The objective of this study was to investigate the concentrations of ZIP and its active metabolite S-methyl-dihydroziprasidone (SMDZ), and the dose-normalized concentrations, using routine therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) data. A high-performance liquid chromatographic method for determining serum concentrations of these substances for routine clinical use was established at the TDM Laboratory in Linköping, Sweden.

The aim of the study was to investigate the use of antidepressant drugs among elderly people in nursing homes. Elderly residents who where found to have been prescribed at least one antidepressant drug according to the specific medication dispensing system were identified in 8 nursing homes in the county of Ostergötland, Sweden. Data were collected from the medical record forms at the nursing home.

The main objectives of this study were to outline the inter- and intraindividual and overall pharmacokinetic variability of S-citalopram, S-desmethylcitalopram, and S-didesmethylcitalopram in serum by means of therapeutic drug monitoring; and to investigate potential correlations between the serum concentration and simultaneously collected clinical data. The study was conducted on outpatients in Sweden in 2002 to 2005. Included in the pharmacokinetic evaluation were 155 patients (68% women and 32% men) aged 17 to 95 years (average, 51 years).

The chiral compound reboxetine is used as a selective noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor (NARI) for the treatment of major depressive disorders. The pharmacokinetic variability of the enantiomers of the drug (S,S- and R,R-reboxetine) was studied using stereoselective high-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometric detection in a controlled clinical monotherapy situation (trial I) and a naturalistic clinical setting (trial II). Trial I included patients receiving racemic reboxetine as 6-month monotherapy for treatment of major depressive disorder.
