A commonly used medium is dimethyl sulfoxide, which has been considered as an innocuous polar solvent. However, we have observed significant differences between control, untreated cells and those receiving increasing amounts of the oxidant and hence increasing amounts of DMSO, to the maximum allowed of 1%.
