Objective Exploratory, descriptive, qualitative study aimed at checking the meaning of the term humanization for nurses and physicians at a private hospital in the city of São Paulo and identify factors that hinder and facilitate humanization in care. Method Exploratory, descriptive, and qualitative study conducted with 19 health care professionals. The purpose of this study was to learn about nurses' perception about ethical dilemmas in nursing care for terminal patients in the context of a general hospital ICU in the city of São Paulo, and what they take into account when making decisions. The study was performed through interviews with ten nurses working at the ICU, using a qualitative approach based on content analysis. Ethical dilemmas were found to be linked to: diversity of values; presence of terminal patients at the ICU; uncertainties aboutterminality and the limits of intervention to prolong the patients' lives; disagreements in decision-making; non-acceptance of the process of dying by the patients' families and the lack of clarifications for the patient and the family.

This study aimed to discover how potential eligible donor families perceive the decision-making process to refuse organ and tissue donation for transplantation. A qualitative research was performed in order to understand the families' perception, based on the situated-phenomenon structure. Eight family members were interviewed, with four themes and fourteen subthemes emerging from the analysis of the statements.

This study was aimed at finding out how an interdisciplinary team deals with the Elderly Statute and how it interfered in the care of institutionalized elderly. The setting was a geriatric hospital in Sio Paulo where 297 elderly people reside. Thirty-five professionals from the facility's interdisciplinary team took part in the study and answered a questionnaire with open and close questions.

This research verified client's perception regarding the information given and freedom of choice for the decision making process related to aesthetic procedures. It was carried out with a sample of 44 clients of the clinic where the study was conducted. Data collection was based on 28 propositions classified in three categories: Information, Competence and Freedom, and two scales to measure client's perception concerning the elucidation of the information provided and freedom of choice.

This study aimed to disclose how relatives of cadaverous donors perceive the organ donation process for transplantation. A phenomenological, qualitative research was carried out on the basis of the "situated-phenomenon structure". The statements revealed that, for the relatives of the donors, the process of donation begins with the patients' hospital admission and only ends when they are buried.

This study aims to get to know nurses' attitude and participation when they have to inform a patient about a prognosis of no treatment possibility. Twenty-five nurse practitioners from a general public school hospital took part in this study. Data were collected through interviews and were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively, showing the following results: 40% of the nurses did not take a stand when informing about a prognosis of no treatment possibility; 56% did not take any part in the decision of informing the patient about the prognosis of no treatment possibility.
