[The Family Doctor and Nurse Program: development of the health care model in CubaO Programa de Médicos e Enfermeiras da Família: desenvolvimento do modelo de saúde em Cuba].

The Cuban family medicine model has been developed, for more than three decades, as the third model of medical care of the revolutionary period in Cuba. It is the complete expression of the application of the primary health care strategy. However, it is still possible to improve the organization, quality and efficiency of health services in the first level of health care.
