Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates skinfold measurements under the chin (SMS) to determine excess weight in Chilean adolescents based on BMI and body fat percentage (BF).
  • The findings indicate high accuracy in using SMS to estimate obesity, with cutoff values identified as 10 mm for girls and 9 mm for boys when using body fat percentage, and 10 mm for girls and 7 mm for boys for BMI.
  • Overall, the results confirm that SMS is a useful measure for assessing obesity in adolescents by correlating well with traditional anthropometric metrics.
