(PS) is a species of wild Brazilian passion fruit, rich in bioactive compounds. Scientific evidence suggests that food rich in polyphenols can modulate inflammation, thereby playing an important role in preventing chronic non-communicable diseases, such as type 2 diabetes (DT2) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Chitosan is one of the most abundant natural polymer worldwide, and due to its inherent characteristics, its use in industrial processes has been extensively explored. In this work, the synthesis of two fruit flavor esters, namely methyl and ethyl butyrate, by lipase from Rhizomucor miehei immobilized onto chitosan in the presence of the surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate SDS was investigated. In the optimized conditions, maximum esterification yield for ethyl butyrate and methyl butyrate was (92 ± 1%) and (89 ± 1%), respectively. Esterification yields for both reactions were comparable or even superior to the ones achieved when the synthesis was catalyzed by a commercial enzyme, Lipozyme®, at the same reaction conditions.

The adsorbent omega-aminodecyl-agarose was evaluated as to its feasibility for the adsorption of human serum and plasma proteins, aiming at the purification of immunoglobulin G (IgG). The contribution of electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions (mixed-mode) and the effects of buffer system on the adsorption of serum proteins were also studied. The adsorption isotherm parameters of human serum albumin (HSA) and IgG were evaluated, pointing to the existence of cooperative effects in the process.
