Effectiveness of XP-Endo Finisher in the reduction of bacterial load in oval-shaped root canals.

This study investigated the effectiveness of XP-Endo Finisher (XPF) associated with XP-Endo Shaper (XPS) or Reciproc Blue (RB) files in reducing bacterial load in oval-shaped root canals (RC) during chemomechanical preparation (CMP) using 0.9% saline solution (NaCl) or 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl).

Evaluation of a drug checking service at a large scale electronic music festival in Portugal.

Background: Drug checking services are being implemented in recreational settings across the world, however these projects are frequently accused of a lack of evidence concerning their impact on people who use drugs. This paper describes the implementation of a drug checking service at the Boom Festival 2016 and explores the impact of this service on its users' behavioural intentions.

Methods: 753 drug samples were submitted to the drug checking service for chemical analysis.

Enuresis and overactive bladder in children: what is the relationship between these two conditions?

Objective: Evaluate clinical aspects associated with the presence of nocturnal enuresis (NE) in children with a diagnosis of overactive bladder (OAB).

Material And Methods: A data base of 200 children who were evaluated by a structured questionnaire was analysed retrospectively . OAB was defined as the presence of urinary urgency (n=183 cases) and/or daytime urinary incontinence associated with holding maneuvers (n=168 cases).

Negotiability of Second Mesiobuccal Canals in Maxillary Molars Using a Reciprocating System.

The aim of this prospective case series report was to assess the frequency in which the Reciproc R25 instrument (VDW, Munich, Germany) is able to scout and reach the full working length (WL) in second mesiobuccal (MB2) canals from maxillary molars. Conventional hand file negotiation was used as the reference technique for comparison. Maxillary molars (270 first molars and 71 second molars) were included in this study.

Emergence of methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci resistant to linezolid with rRNA gene C2190T and G2603T mutations.

The aim of this article were to determinate the mechanism of linezolid resistance in coagulase-negative methicillin-resistant staphylococci from hospitals in the northeast of Brazil. We identified the isolates using VITEK(®) 2 and MALDI-TOF. Susceptibility to antibiotics was measured by the disk-diffusion method and by Etest(®) .

Crisis intervention related to the use of psychoactive substances in recreational settings--evaluating the Kosmicare Project at Boom Festival.

Kosmicare project implements crisis intervention in situations related to the use of psychoactive substances at Boom Festival (Portugal). We present evaluation research that aims to contribute to the transformation of the project into an evidence-based intervention model. It relies on harm reduction and risk minimization principles, crisis intervention models, and Grof's psychedelic psychotherapy approach for crisis intervention in situations related to unsupervised use of psychedelics.

[Social representations of the body: a study of adolescents in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil].

Body changes are central to adolescence as a stage of life. To approach conflicts experienced by adolescents with body changes, this study aimed to identify social representations of the body among adolescents in the last year of primary school in private and municipal schools in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Participants were 13 to 18 years of age and studied in schools in neighborhoods with the highest and lowest scores on the Social Development Index.

The antimicrobial susceptibility, biofilm formation and genotypic profiles of Staphylococcus haemolyticus from bloodstream infections.

We analysed the antimicrobial susceptibility, biofilm formation and genotypic profiles of 27 isolates of Staphylococcus haemolyticus obtained from the blood of 19 patients admitted to a hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Our analysis revealed a clinical significance of 36.8% and a multi-resistance rate of 92.

[Evaluation of medication advertising broadcast on radio stations].

The scope of this paper was to evaluate advertising for medication broadcast on radio stations in Natal, State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, from April to September 2008 and from April to September 2010. The advertising was recorded and transcribed in order to conduct legal analysis and content analysis based on the precepts of Laurence Bardin. Both the advertising recorded during the first stage (regulated by RDC 102/00) and the second stage (regulated by RDC 96/08) contained some form of legal violation.

Assessment of the separation incidence of mtwo files used with preflaring: prospective clinical study.

Introduction: The Mtwo rotary system was designed to be used at full length without performing previous cervical enlargement or creating a manual glide path. However, to our knowledge, no study has investigated whether preflaring influences instrument fatigue. The purpose of this clinical study was thus to evaluate the incidence of separation of Mtwo instruments during the preparation of mandibular and maxillary molars and bicuspids that was preceded by cervical preflaring.

[Life cannot consist of dreams alone: reflections on advertising and a healthy diet].

In this essay we present some thoughts on advertising and a healthy diet in the contemporary world, where consumption plays a highly relevant role. We seek to emphasize two aspects, among many others yet to be explored in the scientific literature in the food and nutritional field: the hegemony of the biomedical paradigm and the fragmentation of human life when advertising campaigns associate food with the idea of a healthy diet. We believe that we cannot merely live through advertisements in which our desires are triggered constantly and where the world is only dreams and the main goal is to sell more and earn more, even using some strategies for dissemination of biomedical and nutritional information.

[Adaptation of critical time intervention for use in Brazil and its implementation among users of psychosocial service centers (CAPS) in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro].

Unlabelled: Brazilian Psychiatric Reform proposes a mental healthcare model based on the implementation of a community-based service network, in which Psychosocial Service Centers (CAPS) play a fundamental role. The report presents the results of a pilot study which aimed to adapt Critical Time Intervention to the Brazilian context, and to test its feasibility to provide it to persons with schizophrenic spectrum disorders who are enrolled in CAPS of Rio de Janeiro.

Methods: The research design included three inter-related phases.

Condensation silicones: do new materials really presents better dimensional stability?

The aim of this study was evaluate the dimensional stability of some condensation silicones. The following materials were studied: Coltex/Coltoflax - Coltène, Speedex - Coltène, and Optosil Comfort/Xantopren VL Plus - Kulzer. They were evaluated by dimensional analysis and gas chromatography (GC) performed at the following times: T0, T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5 (immediately after setting, thirty minutes, two hours, twenty four hours, seventy two hours, and seven days after setting, respectively).

[The end of food: dietary supplementation and diet among avid members of workout and fitness centers in Rio de Janeiro].

The article addresses the particular diet of a group of avid members of workout and fitness centers in Rio de Janeiro. It shows how diet is related to keeping in shape and to the prevailing type of sociability. Using direct and participatory ethnographic observation and open interviews, research was conducted at 12 fitness clubs on the North and South sides of Rio for three years.

Criteria for admission and continuity of health care in psychosocial healthcare services, City of Rio de Janeiro, Southeastern Brazil.

Objective: To analyze the criteria used by teams for admission, referral and continuity of care among patients of the Centros de Atenção Psicossocial (CAPS - Psychosocial Care Centers).

Methods: A qualitative study with participatory evaluation was conducted in three psychosocial healthcare services of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Southeastern Brazil, in 2006. A total of 15 admitted cases and 15 referred cases were selected among the patients admitted for treatment during the six months that preceded the beginning of research.

Value of cytology in papillary condylomatous lesions of the cervix.

Objective: To determine the value of cytology in detecting mature and immature papillary condylomas of the uterine cervix.

Study Design: We evaluated 240 cases of plane cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, grade 1 (CIN 1), and 23 papillary condylomas by Pap smear and biopsy and classified histologic sections according to maturity and keratinization. We reevaluated corresponding cytologic smears and identified criteria of low grade squamous lesion (LSIL) and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection.

Histology of the sternal and suprapubic skin areas in lion tamarins (Leontopithecus sp. Callitrichidae-primates).

Though knowledge regarding the biology and morphology of lion tamarins is scarce in the literature, it is very important for their conservation. This paper focuses on the anatomical and histological aspects of the glands involved in the scent-marking behavior of lion tamarins. It examines the histological aspects of sternal and suprapubic skin sections of specimens that were preserved in formaldehyde and were the property of the Rio de Janeiro Primatology Center Museum.

[Social representations of generic drugs by consumers from Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil].

This paper aimed to determine the central and peripheral roles of consumers' social representations concerning generic drugs, establishing mechanisms that could be used to improve policies for this type of medication in Brazil. The research was done from April 2002 to February 2003 in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, with 400 consumers. The study employed the word association test with the words "generic drug" as the inductive stimulus.

[Social representations of generic drugs by pharmacists: determination of the central and peripheral representational systems].

This article aimed to identify the central and peripheral systems in social representations of generic drugs by pharmacists, as well as their social and economic profile, thereby establishing potential mechanisms for improving policies for generic drugs in Brazil. The data collection instruments were a questionnaire and a word association test, the inductive cue of which was the term "generic drug". Data collected through the questionnaire produced a profile of pharmacists in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte State, and key information related to the theme.

Evaluation of mutagenic activity in an extract of pepper tree stem bark (Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi).

An extract (decoction) from pepper tree stem bark (Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi) is widely used in Brazil as a topical antiinflammatory agent and to cicatrize wounds. The extract contains catechin, tannins, terpenes, flavonoids, and saponins; of these components, both mutagenic potential and antioxidant properties have been ascribed to flavonoids. The mutagenicity of some flavonoids is believed to be associated with the formation of reactive oxygen species and seems to depend on the number and position of hydroxyl groups.

Thrombosis of the abdominal aorta in a newborn: case report and review of literature.

The case of a newborn infant who presented thrombosis in the abdominal portion of the aorta, which resulted in the complete occlusion is reported. Diagnosis was made using Doppler echocardiography. The initial therapeutic approach was clinical support, but as the thrombi started to increase in size (secondary thrombosis) and evolved to the infrarenal terminal aorta, anticoagulation with heparin was indicated.
