Exposure to Pyriproxyfen Impacts Heart Development Causing Tissue and Cellular Impairments, Heart Arrhythmia and Reduced Embryonic Growth.

In recent years, concerns have been raised regarding the safety of exposure to pyriproxyfen (PPF), a larvicide commonly used in drinking water reservoirs to control populations of disease-vector mosquitoes for human safety. These concerns are focused mainly on exposure by pregnant women, since studies have shown deleterious effects of PPF on embryonic development, mainly addressing the central nervous system. However, since previous studies showed reduced growth in embryos exposed to PPF, we hypothesize that PPF exposure impairs the cardiovascular system, responsible for ensuring appropriate blood supply, which leads to stunted growth.

Sellar xanthogranuloma as a diagnostic challenge: a report on five cases.

Xanthogranulomas are considered rare tumors, with their sellar and non-sellar frequency ranging from 1.6 to 7% among intracranial lesions, and described as a separate entity by the World Health Organization in 2000. The diagnosis of sellar xanthogranulomas is challenging, given their uncertain origin and clinical course.

Elevated serum lactate in emergency department patients predicts hospital admission unrelated to diagnosis - but not more.

Purpose: The value of lactate as a screening biomarker in the emergency department is debated. We analysed all unselected patients in the emergency department with serum lactate measured with regard to different outcome parameters.
