Metallic nanoparticles tailor the electronic properties of PbS colloidal quantum dots in a post-synthetic, all solution-processable approach. The Fermi level of the resulting nanocomposites can be tuned from p- to n-type due to remote charge transfer and electron trap state passivation. This concurrently reduces dark current, improves time response, and increases sensitivity in PbS photoconductors, yielding an over-two-fold increase in detectivity.

The improved performance of the BNH devices, compared with that of bilayer devices, is displayed in higher photocurrents and higher open-circuit voltages (resulting from a trap passivation mechanism).

We present hybrid bulk heterojunction devices based on P3HT and bismuth sulfide nanocrystals, a semiconductor based on environmentally friendly compounds, with a power conversion efficiency of 1% and NIR sensitization at 700 nm of 30%, among the highest ever reported for P3HT.

However, weak light absorption and the absence of a gain mechanism that can generate multiple charge carriers from one incident photon have limited the responsivity of graphene-based photodetectors to ∼10(-2) A W(-1). Here, we demonstrate a gain of ∼10(8) electrons per photon and a responsivity of ∼10(7) A W(-1) in a hybrid photodetector that consists of monolayer or bilayer graphene covered with a thin film of colloidal quantum dots.

The reactivity of Pd DENs is similar or inferior to that of palladium(II) acetate, although the presence of the dendrimer suppresses the formation of homocoupling products and allows catalyst recycling. It is suggested that the reaction catalyzed by Pd DENs occurs via palladium species which are leached from the nanoparticle but which remain coordinated to the dendritic macromolecule.

The monitoring of these reactions by NMR spectroscopy has allowed us to detect several intermediates, and to propose a mechanism for the C-H bond activation. In addition, the structures of the (muo-hydride)(mu-alkynyl) complex 5 and the unprecedented (mu-hydride)(mu-vinyl) derivative 4 have been obtained by X-ray crystallographic analyses.
