Introduction: In Orthodontics and Facial Orthopedics, the timing of treatment onset may be critical and individual analysis should be applied to promote a favorable treatment planning. In this study, individual analysis of midpalatal suture (MS) and palatal measurements were performed in teenagers and young adult patients treated with rapid maxillary expansion (RME).

Description: Twenty-six patients submitted to RME with a tooth-supported appliance (Hyrax) were evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated various materials as simulators for soft tissues in cone beam computed tomography using images from five piglet heads.
  • Four materials were tested: acrylic, water, utility wax, and expanded polystyrene (EPS), with pixel intensity values measured across different dental and bone regions.
  • Results showed that EPS, with or without utility wax, was most effective, while water had no significant impact on imaging for any tested areas.

Introduction: Our aim in this study was to investigate the association between dental mineralization stages and the periods of the pubertal growth spurt (PGS).

Methods: The sample included panoramic and hand-wrist radiographs from 491 subjects (222 boys, 269 girls) aged 7 to 17 years. Dental development was rated, and skeletal maturation was evaluated.

Purpose: To evaluate the presence of the anterior extension (AE) of the mandibular canal and to measure the bone height (BH) at different points along the extension.

Materials And Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography examinations of 108 patients were bilaterally evaluated regarding the presence of the AE, and linear measurements of the AE and BH were obtained. For comparisons between sides and genders, Student t test was applied.

Article Synopsis
  • * Analysis of 698 patients revealed that 3.3% exhibited altered patterns (CSPZB) in their ZBs, predominantly with bilateral multilocular features; however, no significant correlation was found with factors like gender, age, or laterality.
  • * Findings suggest that while there are uncommon pneumatization-like patterns in the ZB, their low prevalence indicates that careful evaluation through imaging is essential before any surgical procedures involving this area.
