Unilocular macrocystic serous cystadenoma of the pancreas--atypical features: a case report.

The authors report and discuss an exceedingly rare case of a unilocular macrocystic serous cystadenomas diagnosed in a 63-year-old female patient, which was preoperatively misdiagnosed as a mucinous cystic neoplasm, due to the atypical magnetic resonance (MR) imaging features shown at presentation and the misleading results obtained through cystic fluid analysis. This manuscript overviews the typical and atypical manifestations of this entity and highlights the advantages, potential limitations and pitfalls of both MR imaging and cystic fluid analysis.

Magnetic resonance imaging of biliary tumors.

This article presents current magnetic resonance imaging techniques for the diagnosis of biliary tumors. It emphasizes the need for a comprehensive protocol, combining imaging sequences of the liver parenchyma and soft tissues with magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography and magnetic resonance angiography to detect and stage biliary malignancies. Imaging characteristics that may indicate a specific diagnosis are discussed.

Magnetic resonance imaging in the detection of pancreatitis and pancreatic neoplasms.

This article presents current magnetic resonance imaging techniques for the diagnosis of acute and chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic neoplasms. It emphasises the need for a comprehensive protocol combining imaging sequences of the pancreatic parenchyma with magnetic resonance angiography and secretin-enhanced magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography in order to evaluate the full range of pancreatic inflammatory and neoplastic conditions. Imaging characteristics that may indicate a specific diagnosis are discussed.
