Previous literature showed a complex interpretation of recall tasks due to the complex relationship between Executive Functions (EF) and Long Term Memory (M). The Test of Memory Strategies (TMS) could be useful for assessing this issue, because it evaluates EF and M simultaneously. This study aims to explore the validity of the TMS structure, comparing the models proposed by Vaccaro et al.

Evaluation of the thyroid nodule with high-resolution ultrasonography and elastography without fine needle aspiration biopsy.

Introduction: Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) is the gold standard screening technique used in the diagnostic protocol for thyroid nodules. However, it is not free of complications.

Objective: To identify thyroid nodules in which FNAB could be avoided during the diagnostic process by means of the use of a high-resolution ultrasonography or elastography.

Background: Health-related Habits (HrH) are a major priority in healthcare. However there is little agreement on whether exercise, diet, smoking or dental hygiene are better described as lifestyles, habits or behaviors, and on what is their hierarchical relationship. This research is aimed at representing the basic concepts which are assumed to constitute the conceptual framework enabling us to interpret and organize the field of HrH.

Efficiency of a protected-area network in a Mediterranean region: a multispecies assessment with raptors.

Three different systems of designating protected areas in a Mediterranean region in southeastern Spain were studied, referring to their effectiveness and efficiency for protecting both the breeding territories and the suitable habitat of a set of ten raptor species. Taking into consideration the varying degrees of endangerment of these species, a map of multispecies conservation values was also drawn up and superimposed on the three protected-area systems studied. In order to compare the levels of protection afforded by the three systems, we considered two indices that measured their relative effectiveness and efficiency.

[Study of variables associated with skin cancer in Chile using principal component analysis].

Background: The incidence of skin cancer in Chile has increased in recent years.

Objective: To associate variables with skin cancer in Chile through indices generated using multivariate descriptive statistical techniques.

Material And Method: During May 2004, information was gathered from demographic, meteorological and clinical data from Chile corresponding to fiscal year 2001, the latest complete, official information available for the country's Health Services as a whole.

[Factors with influence on sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome].

Background And Objective: Evaluate the influence of some variables (gender, age, alcohol intake and obesity) on the apnea/hypopnea index (AHI) in patients with sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (SAHS).

Patients And Method: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of patients with SAHS in the Hospital General Universitario of Murcia. We assessed demographic variables, alcohol intake, Epworth's scale, obesity and cardiorespiratory polygraphy or polysomnography.

Effects of prior anaesthesia on autotomy following sciatic transection in rats.

The animal model for chronic pain following sciatic nerve section in the rat has been studied varying the sensory afferents prior to nerve section, using the anaesthetic blocking of the sciatic nerve. The experimental parameters used were the day of onset of autotomy and the time course of autotomy. The results show that the anaesthetic blocking prior to nerve section significantly reduces the degree of autotomy.
