Purpose: To evaluate the refractive prediction error (RPE) of intraocular lens (IOL) calculation formulas in eyes that have undergone the Yamane technique for scleral fixation of IOLs.

Setting: Alkek Eye Center, Cullen Eye Institute, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.

Design: Retrospective case series from electronic chart review.

Purpose: Compare intraocular pressure (IOP) control and complication rates of a second glaucoma drainage device (GDD) to diode transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (TSCPC) following failure of an initial GDD.

Patients And Methods: Eyes with 1 GDD that required a second GDD or TSCPC for glaucoma control were included. Exclusion criteria were a cyclodestructive procedure before initial GDD, no light perception vision, or follow-up <1 year.

Cartilage has a poor healing response, and few viable options exist for repair of extensive damage. Hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogels seeded with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) polymerized through UV crosslinking can generate functional tissue, but this crosslinking is not compatible with indirect rapid prototyping utilizing opaque anatomic molds. Methacrylate-modified polymers can also be chemically crosslinked in a cytocompatible manner using ammonium persulfate (APS) and N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine (TEMED).

The expansion of white adipose tissue (WAT) in obesity involves de novo differentiation of new adipocytes; however, the cellular origin of these cells remains unclear. Here, we utilize Zfp423(GFP) reporter mice to characterize adipose mural (Pdgfrβ(+)) cells with varying levels of the preadipocyte commitment factor Zfp423. We find that adipose tissue contains distinct mural populations, with levels of Zfp423 distinguishing adipogenic from inflammatory-like mural cells.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified a genetic variant at a locus on chromosome 1p13 that is associated with reduced risk of myocardial infarction, reduced plasma levels of LDL cholesterol (LDL-C), and markedly increased expression of the gene sortilin-1 (SORT1) in liver. Sortilin is a lysosomal sorting protein that binds ligands both in the Golgi apparatus and at the plasma membrane and traffics them to the lysosome. We previously reported that increased hepatic sortilin expression in mice reduced plasma LDL-C levels.
