Article Synopsis
  • Sleep is crucial for survival and has been observed in many animal species, from jellyfish to humans, yet the exact mechanisms regulating sleep remain unclear.
  • Drosophila melanogaster, or the fruit fly, serves as an ideal model to study sleep since its brain structures, particularly the mushroom body (MB) and central complex (CX), play significant roles in sleep regulation.
  • Recent findings indicate that specific dopamine neurons (PAM-DANs) in the MB influence wakefulness through GABA receptors, and both DopR1 and DopR2 receptors in downstream neurons participate in the regulation of sleep, highlighting a complex dopamine-modulated sleep circuit that affects sleep and wakefulness balance.

Background: Endometriosis is complex, but identifying the novel biomarkers, inflammatory molecules, and genetic links holds the key to the enhanced detection, prediction and treatment of both endometriosis and endometriosis related malignant neoplasia. Here we review the literature relating to the specific molecular mechanism(s) mediating tumorigenesis arising within endometriosis.

Methods: Guidance (e.

Sleep is a conserved neurobehavioral state observed in animals with sufficiently complex nervous systems and is critical for survival. While the exact function of sleep remains unknown, the lack of sleep can have a range of physiological and behavioral effects. Studies in invertebrates and vertebrates have identified conserved neural mechanisms and cellular pathways in control of sleep, wakefulness and arousal.

Introduction. Emotional responsiveness (ER) has been theorized to play a protective role in pathways to tobacco initiation, regular use, and dependence, yet a possible association between ER and smoking behavior has not been studied. Our aim was to test whether measuring ER to a neutral stimulus was associated with decreased odds of current smoking.

The development and execution of a nurse peer review program to evaluate nursing practice associated with significant adverse events has resulted in systemic changes. Descriptive analyses were conducted for 23 peer-reviewed cases involving 41 RNs and 2 advanced practice nurses from 14 specialties over a 4-year period. Thematic analysis revealed four common event categories: assessment and monitoring, team communication, skin integrity, and vascular access.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to better understand how risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD) mortality may interact.

Methods: We conducted a moderator-mediator analysis of a representative national sample of 5027 and 2902 community-dwelling women and men in the first National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey free of CHD in 1982. The outcome was 10-year CHD mortality.
