Heavy metal pollution, particularly from cadmium (Cd) and copper (Cu), poses significant environmental and health risks. To address the need for efficient, portable, and sensitive detection methods, this study introduces an improved atmospheric pressure glow discharge atomic emission spectrometry (APGD-AES) technique for quantifying Cd and Cu in water samples. The APGD-AES method offers key advantages, including low energy consumption (<33 W), high excitation energy, and compact design.

Owing to the strong initially nearly linear temperature-independent bathochromic shift of 7 nm GPa found in absorption and emission bands for methanol R6G solutions, they are ideal for precise pressure calibration to over 3.4 GPa, when methanol freezes.

We show unique fast singlet (π,π*) excited state deactivation pathway through nonadiabatic transition to the (n,π*) excited- state, and subsequent deactivation to the ground electronic state (S), closing the photocycle. This mechanism explains the exceptionally weak fluorescence and the short excited-state lifetime for the flavin trimethoxyphenyl derivative and the lack of excited triplet T state formation.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFFunctionalized 5-aryldeazaalloxazines have been successfully synthesised through a one-pot, three-component reaction involving -dimethylbarbituric acid, an aromatic aldehyde and aniline. By utilizing readily available reagents, this approach opens up the opportunity for the efficient formation of a variety of 5-aryldeazaalloxazines bearing electron-donating or halogen groups. This practical method is characterised by atom economy and offers a direct route to the introduction of an aryl moiety into the C(5)-position of deazaalloxazines, thereby generating novel catalysts for photoredox catalysis without the need for subsequent purification.

Their electronic structure and transition energies (S → S, S → T, T → T) were calculated using DFT and TD-DFT methods and compared to experimental absorption spectra. Generally, TMeAll display an energy diagram similar to other derivatives belonging to the alloxazine class of compounds, namely π,π* transitions are accompanied by closely located n,π* transitions.

In the present study, we compared the effects of irradiation on A431 cancer cells with blue LED light (438 nm) in the presence of 3MeTARF and riboflavin on MAPK phosphorylation, apoptosis, caspase 3/7 activation and PARP cleavage. We observed that photogenerated oxidative stress in this reaction activates MAPK by increasing phosphorylation of p38 and JNK proteins.

In general, the introduction of an aryl/heteroaryl group by means of a direct C-C bond has been shown to be a promising approach to tuning the photophysical properties of flavin derivatives. The aryl substituents caused a bathochromic shift in the absorption spectra of up to 52 nm and prolonged the fluorescence lifetime by up to 1 order of magnitude.
