Background: Masculinity norms play a crucial role in men's help-seeking behaviors, service-use, and coping strategies for depression. While previous studies provided evidence for the association between gender role orientations, work related attitudes, stigmatization of men with depression and depressive symptoms, it remains unclear to what extent gender role orientations change over time and whether psychiatric and psychotherapeutic treatment have an impact on these transformations. Additionally, the role of partners in supporting depressed men and the impact of dyadic coping on these processes have not been explored.

Background: Acromegaly is a disorder associated with hypersecretion of growth hormone, most usually caused by a pituitary adenoma. Dysmotility of the gastrointestinal tract has been reported in acromegalic patients. Achalasia is a disorder characterized by aperistalsis of the oesophagus with incomplete lower oesophageal sphincter relaxation and whose aetiology remains unknown.

Thus, this study aimed to identify whether histological inflammation at the resection margins after an ileocaecal resection influences endoscopic recurrence.
Methods: We have prospectively followed up patients with CD who underwent ileocaecal resection at our hospital between January 2012 and January 2018.
Polyaniline (PANI) and 2,5-dianilino--benzoquinone both are formed by oxidation of aniline in an acidic aqueous environment. The aim of this study is to understand the impact of addition of -benzoquinone on the structure of PANI prepared by the oxidation of aniline hydrochloride with ammonium peroxydisulfate and to elucidate the formation of low-molecular-weight byproducts. An increasing yield and size-exclusion chromatography, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance analyses of the products show that -benzoquinone does not act as a terminating agent in the synthesis of PANI and the content of 2,5-dianilino--benzoquinone increases with the increasing molar concentration of -benzoquinone in the reaction mixture, [BzQ].

In large hiatal hernias, life threatening complications may occur. However, planned surgical repair of hiatal hernias is associated with very good functional outcomes with a low risk of postoperative complications.

Orbital lesions vary in their classification, incidence, and presentation depending on the age and geographic distribution. Such lesions in the pediatric age group have been studied extensively because of the possibility of faster progression of orbital involvement and the higher risk of morbidity in this age group in which vision is still developing. In Saudi Arabia, orbital lesions were studied over a 6-year period in the late 1980s, when retinoblastoma cases used to present late with orbital involvement.

It often mimics other diseases of the digestive tract. In the case of acute abdomen in a patient with CD, it is necessary to approach it individually in cooperation with a gastroenterologist in order to reduce the extent of resection and to ensure fewer resections.

Background Stomach preparation by ischaemic conditioning prior to oesophageal resection represents a potential method of reducing the risk of anastomotic complications. This study compares the results of the anastomotic complications of cervical anastomosis after oesophagectomy with a short interval after ischaemic conditioning (group S) and a long interval (group L). Methods Subjects undergoing oesophagectomy for carcinoma after ischaemic conditioning were divided into two groups.

The effect of the disease and impairment of QoL in CD patients is already known. The aim was to assess how surgical treatment influences the patients QoL and determine factors that can affect postoperative QoL.

Early detection and treatment of this complication allow for improving operative and oncological results. When assessing laboratory values - elevation of inflammatory parameters - complicated interpretation is an issue (systemic inflammatory response syndrome, surgical versus non-surgical complication).

An anastomotic leak occurs when microcirculation in the proximal gastric wall used for esophageal replacement is impaired. Preoperative occlusion of certain gastric vessels (ischemic gastric conditioning) may lead to changes in vascularization and can potentially reduce the occurrence and severity of anastomotic leak after esophageal resection.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevailing oral health knowledge, attitude, and self-care practices among a sample of pharmacists from Riyadh, Riyadh Province, Saudi Arabia.
Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 200 pharmacists working in community- and hospital-based pharmacies was conducted using a structured, self-administered, close-ended questionnaire.
Surgery of Crohns disease is an important part of the general treatment algorithm. The role of surgery is changing with the development of conservative procedures. The recent years have seen the return to early treatment of patients with Crohns disease.

The aim of our study was to determine the impact of IL-1 gene polymorphisms on the development of GERD, RE and BE.
Methods: Three hundred and thirty-three Czech patients with gastroesophageal reflux and 165 healthy controls were included in this case-control study.
Jejunal diverticulosis is a rare disorder and the course of the disease is mostly asymptomatic. A surgeon meets the patients only in the acute phase of the disease, when the disease symptoms most commonly include bleeding and perforation. Jejunum is difficult to examine using the common visaulization methods and endoscopic methods, therefore, the diagnostics of the disease is difficult and the disease may often mask other disorders.

Spontaneous intramural duodenal haematoma develops mostly as a complication of anticoagulation therapy. Other causes were reported only as case reports. CT diagnostics has some typical features in an intramural haematoma of the small bowel.

The correct preoperative diagnostics including assessment of symptomatology is a prerequisite for the establishment of adequate therapy, including surgery. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of life in patients with GERD, based on their preoperative symptomatology.

Background & Objectives: Ampullary cancer is one of the periampullary tumours with better prognosis, but relapses occur early in some patients. This study was carried out to assess whether pancreatoduodenectomy (PDE, Whipple operation) could be a safe therapeutic procedure for elderly patients with periampullary tumours.
Methods: Between 2005 and 2007, 19 patients (12 male, 7 female) aged over 65 yr (range 66 and 83 yr) with diagnosis of ampulloma were operated.
Background: Achalasia is an uncommon illness affecting 1 per 100,000 patients a year. It encompasses a rare, primary motor disorder of the distal esophagus.
Methods: Over the period 1998-2006, 115 patients underwent various treatments for achalasia; the subgroup of seniors consisted of 26 patients.
Background: With increasing age, the functional condition of the lower esophageal sphincter is getting weaker. Recent progress in peri-operative intensive care and the development of laparoscopic technique makes antireflux surgery a safe choice of GERD treatment in the elderly.
Aim: This work evaluated the long-term results of tailored antireflux surgery in a group of elderly (more than 60 years old) patients.
