- Triboluminescence (TL) is the phenomenon where light is emitted from a substance when mechanical force is applied, but the exact radiation mechanism is still being explored.
- Notable compounds with triboluminescent properties include copper(I) thiocyanate bipyridine triphenylphosphine complex, europium tetrakis dibenzoylmethide triethylammonium, tris(bipyridine)ruthenium(II) chloride, and bis(triphenylphosphine oxide)manganese(II) bromide.
- The study of these materials may not only enhance understanding of TL’s mechanisms but could also pave the way for new force-responsive sensors based on these mechanical stimuli.
