Background: Pathogenesis of cutaneous extraintestinal manifestations [EIM] in inflammatory bowel disease [IBD] remains elusive. Efficacy of anti-TNF agents suggests TNF-dependent mechanisms. The role of other biologics, such as anti-integrins or JAK-inhibitors, is not yet clear.

Chronological Order of Appearance of Extraintestinal Manifestations Relative to the Time of IBD Diagnosis in the Swiss Inflammatory Bowel Disease Cohort.

Background: Data evaluating the chronological order of appearance of extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs) relative to the time of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) diagnosis is currently lacking. We aimed to assess the type, frequency, and chronological order of appearance of EIMs in patients with IBD.

Methods: Data from the Swiss Inflammatory Bowel Disease Cohort Study were analyzed.

Excimer laser versus narrow-band UVB (311 nm) in the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris.

Background: The excimer laser is a new therapeutic option in the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the response of psoriasis lesions to the 308-nm excimer laser compared to 311-nm UVB phototherapy.

Methods: In this prospective right/left comparative, open, single-blinded trial, selected psoriasis plaques of 16 patients were treated with the excimer laser whereas the rest of the body was treated with UVB narrow-band phototherapy.
