Background: Glassy cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix is a rare neoplasm, first described by Gluksman and Cherry in 1956. It is a poorly differentiated adenosquamous carcinoma, comprising about 1-2% of all cervical cancers.

Misplaced staff perceptions of addiction may contribute to this, because certain pain behaviors superficially resemble symptoms of analgesic addiction. We used a vignette study to examine hospital staff judgments about patients with genuine symptoms of analgesic addiction and those with pain behaviors that merely resemble those symptoms.

Background: The aim of the study was to determine the incidence of parasitic liver cysts.

Material And Methods: In 1996-2000 at the Department of Infectious Diseases parasitic liver cysts were diagnosed in 31 patients. The diagnosis was based on imaging examinations (ultrasound, computerised tomography), serological reactions (ELISA, IHA) and histopathological investigation of the specimens obtained through fine-needle aspiration biopsy.

We report here an unusual sporadic case of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) characterized by an abundance of prion protein (PrP)-immunopositive kuru and multicentric but not florid plaques. Molecular genetic analysis of the PRNP open reading frame region spanning codons 8-221 was performed. Neither deletion nor insertion mutations were detected in the repeat area of the PRNP.
