Phaeochromocytomas are catecholamine-secreting tumors arising in the chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla. They are a rare cause of secondary hypertension. However, catecholamine secreting tumors may also be found in the extra-adrenal sites, producing similar symptoms as the adrenal phaeochromocytoma.
