Starting the conversation early is especially important for female patients given the time needed for all currently available fertility preservation techniques.

Objective: To compare the degree of benign bone marrow uptake of F-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) between Hodgkin lymphoma patients with and without B symptoms.

Materials And Methods: We analyzed the medical charts of 74 Hodgkin lymphoma patients who underwent F-FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) prior to the initiation of therapy between October 2010 and September 2013. In all of the patients, the bone marrow biopsy was negative and the F-FDG PET/CT images did not suggest bone marrow involvement.

We investigated the impact of donor-recipient HLA-DPB1 matching on outcomes of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation with in vivo T-cell depletion using antithymocyte globulin (ATG) for patients with hematological malignancies. All donor-recipient pairs had high-resolution typing for HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-C, HLA-DRB1, HLA-DQB1, HLA-DPB1, and HLA-DRB3/4/5 and were matched at HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-C, and HLA-DRB1. HLA-DPB1 mismatches were categorized by immunogenicity of the DPB1 matching using the DPB T-cell epitope tool.

Inotuzumab ozogamicin (InO), a humanized anti-CD22 monoclonal antibody conjugated to the cytotoxic antibiotic agent calicheamicin, has demonstrated efficacy in the phase 3 INO-VATE study of adults with relapsed or refractory acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Findings from the study showed clinically important adverse events (AEs) associated with InO, with veno-occlusive disease (VOD) reported as a major non-hematologic AE. Other important or serious AEs include neutropenia, febrile neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, infusion-related reactions, tumor lysis syndrome, and prolonged QT syndrome.

In this study, we compared transplantation outcomes of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in patients with advanced myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) who received a CD34 cell-selected and those who received an unmodified allograft. This analysis initially included 181 patients, 60 who received a CD34 cell-selected transplant and 121 who received an unmodified transplant. Owing to significant differences in disease characteristics, the analysis was limited to patients with <10% blasts before HSCT (n = 145).

The extensive land occupation in Southeast Brazil has resulted in climatic disturbances and environmental contamination by air pollutants, threatening the Atlantic forest remnants that still exist in that region. Based on previous results, we assumed that pioneer tree species are potentially more tolerant against environmental oxidative stress than non-pioneer tree species from that Brazilian biome. We also assumed that reactive oxygen species (ROS) are accumulated in higher proportions in leaves of non-pioneer trees, resulting in changes in the oxidant-antioxidant balance and in more severe oxidative damage at the cellular level than in the leaves of pioneer trees.

Management of Advanced and Relapsed/Refractory Extranodal Natural Killer T-Cell Lymphoma: An Analysis of Stem Cell Transplantation and Chemotherapy Outcomes.

Background: Extra-Nodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKL) is a rare lymphoma representing approximately 5-10% of T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas diagnosed in the United States each year. Patients with advanced stage III/IV ENKL and relapsed refractory ENKL have a poor prognosis even despite aggressive therapy and stem cell transplantation (SCT). We conducted a review of the management of 37 patients with advanced-stage and relapsed/refractory ENKL in a predominantly non-Asian cohort evaluating both chemotherapy and SCT outcomes.

Pretransplant Consolidation Is Not Beneficial for Adults with ALL Undergoing Myeloablative Allogeneic Transplantation.
