Genotype x environment interaction in cassava multi-environment trials via analytic factor.

The variability in genetic variance and covariance due to genotype × environment interaction (G×E) can hinder genotype selection accuracy, especially for complex traits. This study analyzed G×E interactions in cassava to identify stable, high-performing genotypes and predict agronomic performance in untested environments using factor analytic multiplicative mixed models (FAMM) within multi-environment trials (METs). We evaluated 22 cassava genotypes for fresh root yield (FRY), dry root yield (DRY), shoot yield (ShY), and dry matter content (DMC) across 55 Brazilian environments.

The Verbal Autopsy (VA) is a questionnaire about the circumstances surrounding a death. It was widely used in Brazil to assist in postmortem diagnoses and investigate excess mortality during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This study aimed to determine the accuracy of investigating acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) using VA.

Cyclin D1 expression in penile cancer.

The main goal of the present study was to analyze the expression profile of cyclin D1 in patients with PC, and to determine possible correlations with clinical and histopathological features. A survey was conducted with 100 patients diagnosed with PC, who were treated at two reference hospitals in São Luís, Maranhão, Brazil, between 2013 and 2017. A review of clinical, epidemiological, and histopathological data was performed, Human Papillomavírus (HPV) DNA was detected using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and cyclin D1 expression analysis was performed using immunohistochemical techniques.

Continuous epileptiform discharges are associated with worse neurodevelopmental findings in a congenital Zika syndrome prospective cohort.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify continuous epileptiform discharges (CEDs) on electroencephalograms (EEG) and to determine their clinical significance in children with congenital Zika syndrome (CZS).

Methods: This prospective cohort study included 75 children diagnosed with CZS born from March 2015 and followed up until September 2018 (age up to 36 months). EEG was performed to detect CEDs up to 24 months old.

ATM Variant as a Cause of Hereditary Cutaneous Melanoma in a Spanish Family: Case Report.

Introduction: Ataxia-Telangiectasia Mutated (ATM) is a cancer predisposition gene; carriers of germline pathogenic variants have an increased risk of developing malignancies, including breast, prostate, pancreatic, and ovarian cancer. Most ATM variants are of uncertain significance. Findings from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) suggest that ATM may be a low-risk melanoma susceptibility locus.

Fatal Myocarditis following COVID-19 mRNA Immunization: A Case Report and Differential Diagnosis Review.

Carditis in childhood is a rare disease with several etiologies. We report a case of infant death due to pericarditis and myocarditis after the mRNA vaccine against COVID-19 (COVIDmRNAV). A 7-year-old male child received the first dose of the COVIDmRNAV and presented with monoarthritis and a fever non-responsive to oral antibiotics.

ANCA-associated glomerulonephritis and lupus nephritis following COVID-19 vaccination: a case report and literature review.

With the coverage of COVID-19 vaccination, it has been possible to observe the potential side effects of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, with the most common ones being fever, myalgia, headache, and fatigue. However, an association has been observed between new and recurrent kidney injuries, mainly glomerulonephritis and lupus nephritis associated with ANCA, with the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Sinovac, and AstraZeneca vaccines, although the relationship between them is not clear. We report a case of ANCA-related vasculitis and lupus glomerulonephritis after the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Equations for Prediction of Body Adiposity in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease Undergoing Hemodialysis.

Objectives: The prevalence of obesity in the population has increased and excess body adiposity is one of the main nutritional disorders in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on hemodialysis (HD). The objective of this study was to develop equations using anthropometric measurements to predict the total and abdominal body adiposity of patients with CKD on HD.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study evaluating 323 patients with CKD on HD in city in northeastern Brazil.

Tip Lesion Most Frequent FSGS Variant Related to COVID-19 Vaccine: Two Case Reports and Literature Review.

Large-scale COVID-19 vaccination has been one of the most effective strategies to control the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. However, several cases of glomerular injury related to the COVID-19 vaccine have been described in the literature. We report two cases of a tip lesion variant of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), which presented with significant proteinuria and improved after immunosuppression.

Multi-trait selection in multi-environments for performance and stability in cassava genotypes.

Genotype-environment interaction (GEI) presents challenges when aiming to select optimal cassava genotypes, often due to biased genetic estimates. Various strategies have been proposed to address the need for simultaneous improvements in multiple traits, while accounting for performance and yield stability. Among these methods are mean performance and stability (MPS) and the multi-trait mean performance and stability index (MTMPS), both utilizing linear mixed models.

Malignant lung PEComa (clear cell tumor): rare case report and literature review.

Clear cell tumors of the lung (CCTL), or "sugar tumors" of lung, are very uncommon lesions and are mostly benign perivascular epithelioid cell (PEC) tumors with no specific morphologic features. Fewer than 100 cases have been reported; the aggressive nature demonstrated in sporadic reports has rarely been described in the literature. Although the course is generally described as benign, eight reported cases showed malignant behavior.

Forearm Muscle Activity During the Handgrip Test in Breast Cancer Survivors: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Introduction/background: Breast cancer survivors (BCS) frequently show upper limb dysfunctions. The forearm muscle activity measured by surface electromyography (sEMG) in this population has not been studied. This study aimed to describe forearm muscle activity in BCS, as well as to assess its possible relationship with other variables related to upper limb functionality and cancer-related fatigue (CRF).

Objectives: To verify characteristics associated with drug resistant epilepsy in children up to 36 months of age with Congenital Zika Syndrome (CZS).

Methods: This is a prospective cohort study with children aged up to 36 months diagnosed with CZS. Obstetric, demographic, phenotype and other clinical signs, cranial tomography, growth and motor development of the children were collected.

Little is known about the evolution of head circumference (HC) in children with congenital Zika syndrome (CZS). This study aims to evaluate HC growth in children with CZS in the first three years of life and identify associated factors. HC data obtained at birth and in neuropediatric consultations from 74 children with CZS were collected from the Child's Health Handbook, parents' reports, and medical records.

Understanding the COVID-19 Pandemic in Nursing Homes (Aragón, Spain): Sociodemographic and Clinical Factors Associated With Hospitalization and Mortality.

Old people residing in nursing homes have been a vulnerable group to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, with high rates of infection and death. Our objective was to describe the profile of institutionalized patients with a confirmed COVID-19 infection and the socioeconomic and morbidity factors associated with hospitalization and death. We conducted a retrospective cohort study including data from subjects aged 65 years or older residing in a nursing home with a confirmed COVID-19 infection from March 2020 to March 2021 (4,632 individuals) in Aragón (Spain).

Mixed laryngocele mimicking thyroid nodule.

Laryngocele is defined as a dilation of the laryngeal saccule forming an air sac. Some differential diagnoses for laryngocele have been reported. The aim of the present paper was to describe a case of a patient referred for the evaluation a suspected thyroid nodule that was subsequently diagnosed as a mixed laryngocele.
