Multiple sclerosis (MS) can induce cardiac autonomic dysfunction identified by a decreased heart rate variability (HRV) which was linked to oxidative stress, vitamin D deficiency and sleep disturbance. Previous MS studies revealed the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of exogenous melatonin, as well as its benefits on sleep and vitamin D. We aimed to investigate the change in HRV, oxidative stress, systemic inflammation and sleep following melatonin supplementation in MS patients.

The impact of DEX was evaluated on mussels Mytilus galloprovincialis (Lamarck, 1819) by exposure to environmental concentrations (C1: 4 ng/L; C2: 40 ng/L; C3: 400 ng/L; C4: 2000 ng/L), and sampling at 3 (T3), 6 (T6), and 12 (T12) days. A multi-biomarker approach was applied on gills, involved in gas exchange, feed filtering, and osmoregulation.

On the manipulator-focused response to manipulation cases.

In this paper, we identify a class of responses to cases of manipulation that we label . The key insight of such views is that being subject to the will of another agent significantly affects our freedom and moral responsibility. Though different authors take this key insight in different directions, and the mechanics of their views are quite different, these views turn out to share many key components, and this allows us to discuss several authors' views at the same time, highlighting a variety of challenges for such views and helping to identify pitfalls to avoid in further developments of views of this type.

Despite their involvement at different levels of this pathway, RASopathies share overlapping clinical phenotypes. Noonan syndrome is the most prevalent RASopathy, with an estimated incidence of 1 in 2500 live births, and it is typically inherited in an autosomal dominant manner, with 50% of cases involving gain-of-function mutations in the PTPN11 gene.

A new instrument for the screening of psoriatic arthritis among psoriatic patients.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of a dermatologist-filled-in 7-item questionnaire (called HERACLES) as a screening tool for psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in patients with psoriasis.

Methods: This study was performed in Italy in seven dermatology centres cooperating with rheumatology centres. Adults with psoriasis were consecutively recruited up to a calculated number of 750.

Studying the effects of self-paced concurrent high-intensity interval training and resistance training (HIIT-RT) on respiratory function, cardiopulmonary fitness and fatigue perception in patients with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). Twenty-three PwMS were randomized into a 12-week training group (three times per week) (TG, n = 11) or a control group (CG, n = 12). Lung function (spirometry), aerobic capacity (graded cardiopulmonary-exercise-testing) and perceived fatigue (Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS)) were evaluated pre- and post-intervention.

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) predominantly emerges in individuals previously diagnosed with psoriasis (PsO), offering a unique opportunity to study the transition from PsO to PsA. This progression provides a window to identify characteristics of PsO patients who may develop PsA, facilitating early intervention and potentially informing prevention and treatment strategies. This review evaluates a wide array of research focusing on various risk factors for PsA development.

Purpose: We administered a new breast cancer (BC) adjuvant therapy sequence that delivered postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) before chemotherapy (CT). Our aim was to assess the gain in time to start PORT and the G2-G3 acute-subacute toxicity rate of whole breast adjuvant hypofractionated radiotherapy (AH-RT) administered up-front to the third-generation adjuvant CT (A-CT) in high-risk nodal positive BC in a preliminary report at 2 years.

Methods: This retrospective study analysed the duration of treatment and safety of AH-RT administered up-front to A-CT in high-risk nodal positive BC patients (pts).

Headache in Sturge-Weber syndrome: A systematic review.

Background: Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a neurocutaneous disorder for which the neurological aspects, particularly headaches, remain poorly understood, despite significantly affecting morbidity. The present study aimed to elucidate the prevalence, characteristics and treatment strategies, as well as explore the pathogenesis of headaches, in SWS.

Methods: Using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, we systematically reviewed observational studies, case reports and series from eight databases (Cochrane Library, EBSCO, Embase, Medline, PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus and Web of Science), published from 1978 to 2023, to investigate the prevalence, characteristics, medication response and pathogenic theories of headaches in SWS.

Shear fractures of the capitellum in children: a case report and narrative review.

The shear fractures of the capitellum are rare fractures in the pediatric population. Their diagnosis is challenging because of the high cartilaginous component of the growing elbow, requiring a high level of clinical suspicion especially in the case of small osteochondral or chondral fragments. The literature on capitellar shear fractures is mainly represented by case reports, which provides a patchy view of the topic.
