Inflammatory Profile of Chronic Rhinosinusitis With Nasal Polyp Patients in Brazil: Multicenter Study.

Objectives: To determine the inflammatory profile of CRSwNP in Brazil and characterize the subgroups of CRSwNP patients in this population through cluster analysis.

Study Design: Multicenter cross-sectional study involving 15 centers representing different regions of Brazil.

Subjects And Methods: Clinical data of 166 patients and 80 controls, aged 18 to 70 years old, number of surgeries for CRS, history of asthma and aspirin sensitivity, and Lund-Mackay scores on CT scans.

Efficacy of Disinfection of Rigid Endoscope by Ethyl Alcohol 70.

 Currently, there is no safe, affordable, and ecologically-sustainable guideline that helps prevent contamination through endoscopy. We evaluated the safety of intermediate-level disinfection with 70% ethyl alcohol (w/v) based on biological-load recovery from rigid endoscopes after nasal endoscopy.  To demonstrate the efficacy of 70% ethanol in disinfecting rigid endoscopes (REs) to reduce microbial growth in microbiological cultures.

Symptom assessment after nasal irrigation with xylitol in the postoperative period of endonasal endoscopic surgery.

Introduction: Chronic rhinosinusitis is an inflammatory condition of the nasal cavity and the paranasal sinuses that requires multifactorial treatment. Xylitol can be employed with nasal irrigation and can provide better control of the disease.

Objective: To evaluate the association between the effects of nasal lavage with saline solution compared to nasal lavage with a xylitol solution.

Early-diagnosed silent sinus syndrome and cone-beam computed tomography in a pediatric patient: a case report.

Chronic maxillary atelectasis (CMA) is a progressive alteration in the volume of the maxillary sinuses that may result in facial asymmetry. CMA in asymptomatic patients is known as silent sinus syndrome (SSS) and is a rare entity, especially in pediatric patients. This study reports a case of SSS in a pediatric patient who received an early diagnosis through cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).

Brazilian Academy of Rhinology position paper on topical intranasal therapy.

Middle turbinate flap for skull base reconstruction: cadaveric feasibility study.

Objectives/hypothesis: Surgical resection of intradural pathology through an endonasal corridor creates defects that communicate the subarachnoid space with the sinonasal tract. Reconstruction of these defects with vascularized tissue is superior to any other method. The purpose of this study is to describe a novel vascularized pedicled flap from the middle turbinate (MT) mucosa and to assess its feasibility using a cadaveric model.
