Artificial Intelligence Compared to Manual Selection of Prospective Surgical Residents.

Background: Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the selection of residency program applicants is a new tool that is gaining traction, with the aim of screening high numbers of applicants while introducing objectivity and mitigating bias in a traditionally subjective process. This study aims to compare applicants screened by an AI software to a single Program Director (PD) for interview selection.

Methods: A single PD at an ACGME-accredited, academic general surgery program screened applicants.

Early Cholecystectomy in Patients with Sickle Cell Disease with Uncomplicated Cholelithiasis Is Associated with Better Outcomes.

Background: Up to 85% of patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) will develop gallstones by their third decade. Cholecystectomy is the most commonly performed procedure in these patients. Cholecystectomy is recommended for patients with SCD with symptomatic cholelithiasis and leads to lower morbidity.

Safety and Feasibility of Performing Fenestrated Endovascular Abdominal Aneurysm Repair Using a Portable C-arm Without Fusion Technology: A Single-Center Experience.

Objective Most centers performing fenestrated endovascular aneurysm repair (F-EVAR) use hybrid rooms with fusion technology for mapping. We present our experience of successfully performing F-EVAR using C-arm without fusion technology. Methods During the period of January 2016 to October 2018, data were collected from a prospectively maintained F-EVAR database at our tertiary care institute.
