Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of ProTaper Next (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) and Reciproc (VDW, Munich, Germany) systems in removing filling material from oval root canals using sonic or ultrasonic irrigation as additional cleaning methods.
Methods: Thirty-two human extracted mandibular premolars with oval canals were prepared using the ProTaper Universal system (Dentsply Maillefer) up to instrument F4 (40/.06) and then filled by the single-cone technique using Endofill sealer (Dentsply Maillefer).
Objective: The antimicrobial effect of ultrasonic agitation of calcium hydroxide (CH) pastes in infected bovine dentin and their penetrability were evaluated using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and microbiological culture.
Material And Methods: Fifty-two bovine teeth were infected with Enterococcus faecalis using a new contamination protocol; then they received CH paste and were divided into groups with or without ultrasound. Ultrasonic agitation was conducted for 1 min with a plain point insert.
Endodontic sealer residues remaining within the pulp chamber dentin after root canal obturation and cleaning with various solvents may compromise the appearance and the durability of dental restorations. Acid etching is routinely performed prior to application of dentine adhesive systems, but is effect on residual sealer material and the optimal time-point for performing etching, are unknown. Here, we evaluated the effect of acid etching on the dentin surface when performed either immediately or 7 days after removal of the endodontic sealer with two solvents, i.

Methods: Fifty mesial roots of mandibular molars were embedded in epoxy resin using a metal muffle; afterward, the blocks containing the roots were sectioned at 2, 4, and 6 mm from the apex. After instrumentation, the roots were divided into 5 groups (n = 10) for application of the final irrigation protocol using Easy Clean in continuous rotation, Easy Clean in reciprocating motion, PUI, Endoactivator, and conventional irrigation.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different passive ultrasonic irrigation protocols on the removal of debris in artificially created grooves in the cervical, middle and apical root thirds. Forty extracted bovine incisor roots were instrumented to 1 mm of the root apex with a R50 Reciproc instrument and irrigated with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite.

Introduction: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the in vitro antibiofilm activity and pH of calcium hydroxide associated with different nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Methods: The groups analyzed were as follows: group 1, calcium hydroxide paste with propylene glycol; group 2, calcium hydroxide paste with propylene glycol + 5% diclofenac sodium; group 3, calcium hydroxide paste with propylene glycol + 5% ibuprofen; group 4, calcium hydroxide paste with propylene glycol + 5% ciprofloxacin; and group 6, positive control (without medication). For analysis of the pH, the pastes were inserted into tubes and immersed in flasks containing ultrapure water.
Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the in vitro intradentinal antimicrobial ability of the calcium hydroxide and tri-antibiotic pastes.
Materials And Methods: Standard bovine dentin tubes were sterilized and then infected with Enterococcus faecalis by a new contamination protocol of great depths of dentin. The specimens were filled with the medications, divided into two test-groups: calcium hydroxide (Group 1) and tri-antibiotic (Group 2) pastes.
Objectives:: To determine the prevalence of three-rooted mandibular molars in a Brazilian population using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and to analyze the anatomy of mandibular first molars with three roots through micro-CT.
Material And Methods:: CBCT images of 116 patients were reviewed to determine the prevalence of three-rooted first mandibular molars in a Brazilian subpopulation. Furthermore, with the use of micro-CT, 55 extracted three-rooted mandibular first molars were scanned and reconstructed to assess root length, distance between canal orifices, apical diameter, Vertucci's classification, presence of apical delta, number of foramina and furcations, lateral and accessory canals.

Introduction: The aim of this ex vivo study was to evaluate the removal of filling material after using CM-wire, M-wire, and nickel-titanium instruments in both reciprocating and rotary motions in curved canals.
Methods: Thirty maxillary lateral incisors were divided into 9 groups according to retreatment procedures: Reciproc R25 followed by Mtwo 40/.04 and ProDesign Logic 50/.
Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine the variations in root canal length (RCL) occurring during endodontic treatment stages (initial, preflared, and concluded) and correlate them with the accuracy of Root ZX II (RZX).
Methods: After coronal access, 26 mandibular molars had the apical foramen of the 52 mesial canals standardized (250 μm) and their respective initial RCL was recorded (RCL1 = initial) by using a clinical microscope (×16) and manual K-file instruments. By using the alginate model, sequential electronic measurements were taken with the RZX.
The aim of this study was to assess the effect of time and the ultrasonic activation of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in removing the smear layer of at root canal. A total of 60 bovine inferior incisors were transversely sectioned and instrumented; A smear layer was added in the root dentin surface. The specimen were then divided into six groups according to the following final irrigation protocols: Group (G) 1: conventional irrigation with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl); G2: conventional irrigation with NaOCl + EDTA for 20 s; G3: conventional irrigation with NaOCl + EDTA for 60 s; G4: passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) with NaOCl; G5: PUI with NaOCl + PUI with EDTA for 20 s; G6: PUI + NaOCl and PUI with EDTA for 60 s.
