Introduction: Although propofol is widely preferred as a sedative agent in gastrointestinal endoscopy, its use is commonly associated with hemodynamic adverse events. New sedatives, such as ciprofol, are emerging with promising results. Thus, we aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare efficacy-, safety-, and satisfaction-related outcomes between ciprofol and propofol for adult sedation in gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Safety and technical performance of bilateral decubitus CT myelography using standard versus increased intrathecal iodinated contrast volume.

Background And Purpose: Lateral decubitus CT myelography (LDCTM) is one of the main studies for the detection of CSF-venous fistulas (CVF), but detection of CVFs is dependent on intrathecal contrast density. The purpose of this investigation was to assess tolerability and technical performance of increased intrathecal doses of myelographic contrast compared to standard doses.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective series of 24 patients who underwent LDCTM following administration of either 10 or 20 ml of intrathecal iodinated contrast media (300 or 320mg/mL iodine content).

A review on the diversity and distribution of athecate dinoflagellates in South Atlantic and in the Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean: Research insights and gaps.

This review summarizes the state of knowledge on athecate dinoflagellates occurring within the South Atlantic Ocean and Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean. We compiled data from 105 articles and selected 33 addressing any aspect of athecate dinoflagellate studies. Our aim is to discuss the patterns in athecate dinoflagellate distribution by building a thorough species list and an occurrence map based on species recorded in coastal and oceanic waters.

Real-world approaches to outpatient treatment of status migrainosus: A survey study.

Objectives: Identify how the American Headache Society (AHS) membership manages status migrainosus (SM) among outpatients.

Background: SM is defined as a debilitating migraine attack lasting more than 72 h. There is no standard of care for SM, including whether a 72-h duration is required before the attack can be treated as SM.

Computational model of the cancer necrotic core formation in a tumor-on-a-chip device.

The mechanisms underlying the formation of necrotic regions within avascular tumors are complex and poorly understood. In this paper, we investigate the formation of a necrotic core in a 3D tumor cell culture within a microfluidic device, considering oxygen, nutrients, and the microenvironment acidification by means of a computational-mathematical model. Our objective is to simulate cell processes, including proliferation and death inside a microfluidic device, according to the microenvironmental conditions.

Sleep Quality in CrossFit: A Cross-Sectional Study.

 Based on the relationship between sleep and sports performance, the present study aimed to evaluate sleep quality and excessive daytime sleepiness among adult CrossFit (CrossFit, LLC, Santa Cruz, CA, USA) practitioners and to verify possible associations with intestinal health.  This cross-sectional study involved males and females aged ≥ 18 years who had been regularly practicing CrossFit for at least 3 months. This survey used an online questionnaire addressing demographic and socioeconomic data, disease history, dietary characteristics, and questions regarding CrossFit.

Rural work and COVID-19: challenges and proposals for the prevention of damages.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the inequalities in health care access in Brazil, exarcerbating vulnerabilities and social determinants of health. Inequality is part of the context of rural populations, especially rural workers and family and subsistence farmers due to both the direct consequences of work activity and the unfavorable socioeconomic context, especially regarding service provision, the guaranteeing of rights, and the coordination of care networks. This article reviews challenges to the health of these workers and outlines proposals for disease prevention in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Health equity, care access and quality in headache - part 1.

Current definitions of migraine that are based mainly on clinical characteristics do not account for other patient's features such as those related to an impaired quality of life, due to loss of social life and productivity, and the differences related to the geographical distribution of the disease and cultural misconceptions which tend to underestimate migraine as a psychosocial rather than neurobiological disorder.Global differences definition, care access, and health equity for headache disorders, especially migraine are reported in this paper from a collaborative group of the editorial board members of the Journal of Headache and Pain. Other components that affect patients with migraine, in addition to the impact promoted by the migraine symptoms such as stigma and social determinants, are also reported.

Modification of resting metabolism, body composition, and muscle strength after resolution of coronavirus disease 2019.

Background & Aims: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection causes changes that can influence human metabolism and modify the distribution of body compartments. We aimed to describe the clinical findings of changes in resting metabolism, muscle strength, and body composition in nonhospitalized patients after being diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Methods: Physically active patients were evaluated at a nutrition clinic, and indirect calorimetry (IC) and body composition analysis using portable ultrasound were performed.

Expression of SmATPDases 1 and 2 in Schistosoma mansoni eggs favours IL-10 production in infected individuals.

A role of IL-10 is down-regulating T-cell responses to schistosome antigens. Since SmATPDases can be correlated to modulation of the immune response, we evaluated the expression of enzymes in S. mansoni eggs.

Physical-biological drivers modulating phytoplankton seasonal succession along the Northern Antarctic Peninsula.

The Northern Antarctic Peninsula (NAP) shows shifts in phytoplankton distribution and composition along its warming marine ecosystems. However, despite recent efforts to mechanistically understand these changes, little focus has been given to the phytoplankton seasonal succession, remaining uncertainties regarding to distribution patterns of emerging taxa along the NAP. To fill this gap, we collected phytoplankton (pigment and microscopy analysis) and physico-chemical datasets during spring and summer (November, February and March) of 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 off the NAP.

Interplay among differential exposure to and TLR4 polymorphism impacts the immune response in household contacts of leprosy patients.

Introduction: The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs1927914 A/G in gene and the immunological profile of household contacts (HHC) of leprosy patients. Leprosy classification is usually complex and requires the assessment of several clinical and laboratorial features.

Methods: Herein, we have applied distinct models of descriptive analysis to explore qualitative/quantitative changes in chemokine and cytokine production in HHC further categorized according to operational classification [HHC(PB) and HHC(MB)] and according to SNP.

Do Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy and Low-Level Laser Therapy Influence Oral Health-Related Quality of Life After Molar Extraction?

Purpose: Most individuals experience significant deterioration in their oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in the first few days after tooth extraction. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and low-level laser therapy (LLLT) protocols on OHRQoL after extraction of lower molars.

Methods: The investigators designed a double-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial study.

Factors Associated with the Lifestyle of Pediatric Healthcare Professionals during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The objective of this study was to analyze the association between sociodemographic and occupational variables with the lifestyle of health professionals in pediatric units during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 407 health professionals working in four pediatric health units in the State of Bahia, northeast Brazil. The Fantastic Lifestyle Questionnaire and a questionnaire with sociodemographic and employment variables self-applied via Google Forms were used.

For many years triptans have been the cornerstone of acute migraine treatment. Nevertheless, treatment with triptans may not always be initiated due to contraindications (seen in approximately one fifth of patients) or inadequate response (seen in approximately one third of patients). New acute therapies, including 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptor agonists, also known as ditans (lasmiditan) and small molecule antagonists of the calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor, also known as gepants (rimegepant and ubrogepant), may be an effective alternative.

Macronutrients, iron and humic substances summer cycling over the extended continental shelf of the South Brazil Bight.

We surveyed macronutrients and dissolved iron (DFe) concentrations and speciation in a transect over the shelf of the South Brazil Bight (SBB) at Santa Marta Grande Cape (SE Brazil) during a coastal downwelling episode. Driven by dominant NE winds, coastal downwelling is a common feature during the austral summer and force after water convergence, with contribution of internal wave breaking at the shelf edge, upwelling of macronutrients into the nutrient-depleted waters of the southbound Brazil Current at ~100 km from the coastline. As a result, we found a plume of high turbidity that reached the euphotic layer, a deepening of the silicate, nitrate, and phosphate isolines over the shelf and a bulging of the nitrate and phosphate isolines over the shelf edge and the slope.

BRAZILIAN CONSENSUS STATEMENT ON VISCOSUPPLEMENTATION OF THE HIP (COBRAVI-Q).

Objective: The Brazilian Consensus on Hip Viscosupplementation aims to generate a referential and consensual source from the theoretical knowledge and clinical experience of specialists in the field.

Methods: A multidisciplinary panel was formed with 15 specialists (sports medicine, orthopedists, physiatrists and rheumatologists), based on clinical and academic experience in the use of viscosupplementation of the hip. 12 statements were prepared, discussed and voted.

Burden of migraine in Brazil: A cross-sectional real-world study.

Objective: To assess the burden and consequences of migraine in Brazil in terms of health-related quality of life (HRQoL), work productivity and daily activities, and healthcare resource utilization (HRU).

Background: Despite existing data on how migraine affects populations worldwide, there are limited data on the burden of migraine in Latin America.

Methods: This cross-sectional study used patient-reported data from the 2018 Brazil National Health and Wellness Survey.

Consensus of the Brazilian Headache Society (SBCe) for prophylactic treatment of episodic migraine: part II.

Background: Migraine affects 1 billion people worldwide and > 30 million Brazilians; besides, it is an underdiagnosed and undertreated disorder.

Objective: The need to disseminate knowledge about the prophylactic treatment of migraine is known, so the Brazilian Headache Society (SBCe, in the Portuguese acronym) appointed a committee of authors with the objective of establishing a consensus with recommendations on the prophylactic treatment of episodic migraine based on articles from the world literature as well as from personal experience.

Methods: Meetings were held entirely online, with the participation of 12 groups that reviewed and wrote about the pharmacological categories of drugs and, at the end, met to read and finish the document.

Update on Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension Management.

Background: Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) is a secondary headache with a steadily growing incidence. Currently, there is little evidence to guide the treatment of IIH.

Objective: To review the pathophysiology of IIH, with focus on the role of obesity as a risk factor, and the implications for new therapeutic perspectives.
