Patients with cyanosis secondary to congenital heart disease (CHD) are characterized by erythrocytosis and increased blood viscosity, which contribute to endothelial dysfunction, increased arterial stiffness, and impaired vascular function, which may affect the final clinical presentation. Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) and e-selectin (e-sel) are valuable biomarkers for endothelial and vascular dysfunction. Their concentration levels in blood serum have the potential to be an accessible tool that reflects the severity of the disease.

Posttraumatic reconstruction of large lower extremity veins is a challenging and rarely performed procedure. We describe a case of an 18-year-old male traffic accident victim presenting with extensive venous injury of the right inguinal region including external iliac vein and common femoral vein requiring immediate ligation. Owing to life-threatening phlegmasia cerulea dolens, venous reconstruction was successfully performed using an femoral vein interposition autograft from the contralateral lower limb.

A close causal relationship between cancer and venous thrombosis gives rise to questions about the effect of treatment modalities, in particular of the administered drugs, in patients with cancer-related venous thrombosis. An increased risk of chemotherapy-associated venous thromboembolism (VTE) has been well documented, while the effect of heparins used in VTE treatment on the disease course and prognosis in cancer patients has not been fully elucidated. Background: High-resolution contrast-enhanced ultrasound is one of methods used in the detection and characterization of endoleaks, which is a frequent complication after EVAR. A new technology provided by Toshiba's AplioTM 500 ultrasound system, called Superb Micro-Vascular Imaging (SMI), is dedicated specifically to imaging very low flow states and appears to be a promising new method for detection of endoleaks.
