Aim: To investigate the association between ischemic stroke topography and the onset of urinary incontinence (UI); to evaluate predictors of post-stroke UI in women.
Method: We prospectively followed up a cohort of women with ischemic stroke confirmed by clinical and computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans findings. Participants were subjected to interview, clinical evaluation, and urodynamic study if needed at 6 months post-stroke and divided in continent and incontinent groups.
Brazil is a heterogeneous country with continental dimensions. The different characteristics of cultural, socioeconomic, and demographic status of the population drive different strategies for neurological care. This knowledge helps the understanding of the current scenario with the consequent possibility of preparing for future challenges.

Materials And Methods: We studied 24 patients older than 18 years, with ischemic stroke that occurred between 6 months and 3 years previously and with no prior urinary symptoms. These patients were randomly allocated to receive electrical stimulation of the posterior tibialis nerve twice weekly for 6 weeks (treatment group, n = 12) or general advice and stretching sessions 1 to 3 times monthly for 6 weeks (control group, n = 12).
Unlabelled: Stroke patients may present otoneurological symptoms.
Objective: To assess the vestibular function of subjects with a history of carotid territory stroke.
Method: This historical cohort cross sectional study enrolled 40 patients; subjects answered the Dizziness Handicap Inventory, were interviewed and submitted to ENT examination and vectorelectronystagmography.
Objective: To investigate occurrences of swallowing disorders after ischemic stroke.
Method: This was a retrospective study on 596 medical files. The inclusion criterion was that the patients needed to have been hospitalized with a diagnosis of ischemic stroke; the exclusion criteria were the presence of associated cardiac problems and hospital stay already more than 14 days.
Unlabelled: Spasticity is a determining for functional loss following ischemic stroke.
Objective: To detect possible predictive factors for its occurrence.
Method: Demographic, clinical and tomographic data on 146 stroke patients were analyzed.
Objective: To analyze the spontaneous recovery of the verbal language on patients who have had an ischemic stroke.
Method: Retrospective analysis of 513 medical records. We characterize referring aspects for data identification, language deficit, spontaneous recovery and speech therapy.
Objective: To identify factors relating to depressive symptoms among elderly people with chronic vestibular dysfunction.
Method: This was a cross-sectional study in which 120 elderly people with chronic vestibular dysfunction answered the Geriatric Depression Scale questionnaire. Multivariate linear regression analysis was performed (p<0.
Among the many infective causes of cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), viral hepatitis is been regarded as a rare associated condition. We report on a 56-years-old man presenting CVT associated with hepatitis B and C coinfections outlining probable pathogenic mechanisms. We suggest that virus B and C serology should be performed in the cases of cerebral venous thrombosis with unknown etiology.

Objective: To describe the transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) findings in young and non-young stroke patients without any prior evidence of cardiac source for cerebral embolism.
Method: Transversal study: 523 patients (267 men and 256 women) with ischemic stroke, without any evidence of cardiac abnormality, underwent to TEE.
Several infectious etiologies are related to cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), but a review of literature showed only few cases related to tuberculosis (TB), and only one with neurological manifestations. We report an unusual case of CVT related to TB and mutation in prothrombin gene. A 38-man black presented abrupt right hemiparestesis, and hemiparesis.

The study purpose is to guide and offer subsidies for diagnosis and therapeutical plans for different situations in cerebrovascular disease The present article analyzes "carotid disease in the acute phase of stroke", approaching separately the following topics: methods for detection of carotid stenosis in acute phase; when and how intervene on the carotid during the acute phase; clinical treatment and inflammatory markers. Comments based on literature and participants personal opinion are described, and conclusion are the group opinion.

This study analyzes the neuro-psychomotor development of a group of congenitally visually impaired children as compared to children with normal sight. We have evaluated two groups of seven-year-olds by means of neurological evolution examination (NEE).

We investigated the reasons for early or late arrival to the Emergency Room, the time span from arrival to computed tomography (CT) scanning, factors associated to hospitalization time, and patients outcome. We concluded that people who are cared for by São Paulo Hospital now get to the hospital sooner than they did 3 years ago (47% arrived in 3 hours or less) and that the patient flow inside the hospital became much faster, once any stroke patient is considered now a medical emergency by the hospital staff.

Purpose: To study the effects of kinesiotherapy treatment on shoulder pain prevention, and as a secondary endpoints, to analyze muscle strength of H/P shoulder looking at basic functional active mobility.
With the advent of time-dependent thrombolytic therapy for ischemic stroke it has become increasingly important for stroke patients to arrive at the hospital quickly. This study investigated the time that our patients took since the recognition of the symptoms until the stroke diagnosis in a hospital in the city of S o Paulo. We concluded that in our hospital medical personnel and paramedics did not consider stroke as a medical emergency before neurological evaluation.
