Objective: To compare child health booklet (CHB) use and filling out among mothers who were or were not Bolsa Família Program (BFP) beneficiaries.

Methods: Cross-sectional study with mothers of children <6years attending health centers in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, between January-February/2023. The CHB was evaluated regarding its use (having a CHB, having it in hand, and having read it) and filling out (growth curves, development monitoring forms, and vaccination completeness).

Objective: to identify the multidisciplinary health team's perception on aspects of the physical and emotional development of children and adolescents who have suffered sexual violence.

Methods: a qualitative study, carried out with 30 health professionals in a hospital in Bahia, Brazil, between June and July 2019. Data were collected from an interview guided by a semi-structured questionnaire.

Background: Atrial high-rate episodes (AHREs) are associated with an increased risk of cerebral ischemic events; however, there are no studies related to the presence of AHREs and cerebral ischemic events in Chagasic patients.

Objective: To investigate the association between the presence of AHREs ≥ 6 minutes and cerebral ischemic events in Chagasic patients.

Methods: Cohort study with Chagasic patients with implantable electronic cardiac devices (IECDs), followed at the Arrhythmia Outpatient Clinic of a University Hospital, in the city of Salvador, state of Bahia, Brazil, between May 2016 and June 2017.

Heart failure predisposes to an increased risk of silent cerebral infarction, and data related to left ventricular ejection fraction are still limited. Our objective was to describe the clinical and echocardiographic characteristics and factors associated with silent cerebral infarction in patients with heart failure, according to the left ventricular ejection fraction groups. A prospective cohort was performed at a referral hospital in Cardiology between December 2015 and July 2017.

Breast cancer is one of the main causes of cancer death among South African women. Although several risk factors can be attributed to the observed high mortality rate, the biology of the tumors is not extensively investigated. Copy number gain of the DLX4 homeobox gene has been observed in breast cancer in association with poor prognosis and specific racial groups.

DLX4 is a homeobox gene strongly implicated in breast tumor progression and invasion. Our main objective was to determine the DLX4 copy number status in sentinel lymph node (SLN) metastasis to assess its involvement in the initial stages of the axillary metastatic process. A total of 37 paired samples of SLN metastasis and primary breast tumors (PBT) were evaluated by fluorescence in situ hybridization, quantitative polymerase chain reaction and array comparative genomic hybridization assays.

The 2 main histologic types of infiltrating breast cancer, invasive lobular and invasive ductal carcinoma, are morphologically and clinically distinct. Studies revealed that different patterns of gene expression and loss of heterozygosity can also distinguish these 2 subtypes. A whole-genome study using single nucleotide polymorphism array found a significantly higher frequency of loss of heterozygosity on 3p in invasive ductal carcinoma when compared with invasive lobular carcinoma.

Article Synopsis
  • Previous studies highlight the 9p genomic region's role in cancer development, prompting this research on breast carcinoma, analyzing loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in 230 patient samples using five specific microsatellite markers.
  • Among the samples analyzed, 171 (74%) showed informative results, with 44 (25.73%) exhibiting LOH, indicating variable rates across different markers, particularly a notable concordant loss of genes CDKN2A and MTAP in some cases.
  • The study found significant associations between LOH frequencies and certain clinicopathologic parameters, suggesting that while LOH is important in activating tumor suppressor genes in breast cancer, its frequency is lower compared to other cancer types, revealing a need for further exploration of

The objective of this study is to evaluate the interpersonal relation process with mothers of newborns in a neonatal unit using Joyce Travelbee's Interpersonal Relation Theory. It is a descriptive case study carried out in a neonatal internal unit in December of 2003 and January of 2004. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with person-to-person interaction.
