Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease characterized by keratinocyte proliferation and inflammatory cell infiltration induced by IL-17. However, the molecular mechanism through which IL-17 signaling in keratinocytes triggers skin inflammation remains not fully understood. Pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2), a glycolytic enzyme, has been shown to have non-metabolic functions.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma remains challenging to treat with no improvement in survival rates over the past 50 years. Thus, there is an urgent need to discover more reliable therapeutic targets and biomarkers for HNSCC. Matriptase, a type-II transmembrane serine protease, induces malignant transformation in epithelial stem cells through proteolytic activation of pro-HGF and PAR-2, triggering PI3K-AKT-mTOR and NFKB signaling.

Virtual microscopy (VM) is a widely used teaching method in Medical Education in many developed countries. In Brazil, however, this is not the case for most medical schools, considering Brazilian social inequality and uneven access to technology. Recently, the Covid-19 pandemic has also challenged Universities to seek and make a transition toward more effective methods of full-time online education.

Background: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains a challenging cancer to treat despite all the advances of the last 50 years. Kallikrein 5 (KLK5) is among the serine proteases implicated in OSCC development. However, whether the activity of KLK5 promotes carcinogenesis is still controversial.

Objective: To describe the steps in the transcultural adaptation of the scale in the Effort-reward imbalance model to household and family work to the Brazilian context.

Methods: We performed the translation, back-translation, and initial psychometric evaluation of the questionnaire that comprised three dimensions: (i) effort (eight items, emphasizing quantitative workload), (ii) reward (11 items that seek to capture the intrinsic value of family and household work, societal esteem, recognition from the spouse/partner, and affection from the children), and (iii) overcommitment (four items related to intrinsic effort). The scale was included in a sectional study conducted with 1,045 nursing workers.

Background: Unhealthy lifestyle choices, such as smoking and sedentary behavior, are among the main modifiable risk factors for chronic non-communicable diseases. The workplace is regarded as an important site of potential health risks where preventive strategies can be effective. We investigated independent associations among psychosocial job strain, leisure-time physical inactivity, and smoking in public servants in the largest Brazilian adult cohort.

Demand-control has been the most widely used model to study job strain in various countries. However, researchers have used the model differently, thus hindering the comparison of results. Such heterogeneity appears in both the study instrument used and in the definition of the main exposure variable - high strain.

Objective: To estimate the test-retest reliability of items of the Resource Generator scale for assessing social capital in the Brazilian Longitudinal Study for Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil).

Methods: The social capital was applied in a subsample of 281 participants from six ELSA investigation centers, on two occasions with an interval of seven to 14 days. The instrument consists of 31 items that represent concrete situations to evaluate the access to different types of resources.

Objective: To describe the process involved in adapting scales for measuring neighborhood characteristics to Brazilian Portuguese.

Methods: The dimensions addressed were social cohesion, environment suitable for physical activity, availability of healthy foods, safety, perceived violence and victimization. The adaptation process involved assessment of equivalence between the original scales and the Portuguese versions.

This article describes the development of the Brazilian Longitudinal Study for Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil) questionnaire. We first address the selection of topics whose contents have to cover the knowledge available on the complex causal network of outcomes and allow comparability with similar studies. Then we deal with the "translation and adaptation of measurement instruments" including neighborhood environment rating scales, depression and anxiety disorder rating scale and a food frequency questionnaire and discuss criteria that guided "theme block sequencing".

Introduction: Karasek's demand-control model has been used to investigate association between job strain and health outcomes. However, different instruments and definitions have been utilized to assess the exposure 'high strain at work', which makes difficult the comparison of results across studies.

Objective: To describe the measurement instruments and the definitions adopted for the exposure variable 'job strain', according to the demand-control model, by observational studies published until 2010.

We evaluated the International Classification of Primary Care interobserver reliability for coding the complaints reported at a primary public health unit. The study sample consisted of 300 appointments. Reasons for appointment were registered by physicians on the medical record and coding was performed by two investigators.

Unlabelled: Verbal Fluency Tests (VFT) are commonly used to assess executive functions and language in clinical and epidemiological studies. These tests were included to access cognitive function and predictors to its decline in ELSA-Brasil (Longitudinal Study of Adults' Health), a cohort that investigates incidence and predictors of chronic diseases among 15,000 civil servants from six public educational institutions.

Objective: To investigate the reliability of VFT scoring by supervisors of.

This study aimed to analyze the association between job strain and hypertension in the female population. A cross-sectional study was performed with 1,819 women who participated in the Estudo Pró-Saúde (Pro-Health Study), in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Southeastern Brazil, between 1999 and 2001. The Brazilian version of the short version of the Job Stress Scale (demand-control model) was used.

Purpose: To compare the psychometric adequacy of the demand-control-support (DCS) and the effort-reward imbalance (ERI) questionnaires in relation to their respective theoretical models among workers within the same psychosocial work environment.

Methods: A self-report questionnaire was administered to 1,509 nursing personnel at two Brazilian hospitals. Analyses were based on internal consistency, corrected item-total correlation, and confirmatory factor analysis models for ordinal data (conducted with Mplus software) to test the fit of each model.

The effort-reward imbalance (ERI) model has been used to assess the health impact of job stress. We aimed at describing the cross-cultural adaptation of the ERI questionnaire into Portuguese and some psychometric properties, in particular internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and factorial structure. We developed a Brazilian version of the ERI using a back-translation method and tested its reliability.

The adequacy of medical management and the validity of epidemiological inference on arterial hypertension depend crucially on the accuracy of measurement procedures. This article reports on our experience with the procedures used for personnel training and quality control of blood pressure measurements in the Pro-Saude Study phase 2, which was conducted among 3,574 civil servants at a university in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2001. We utilized mercury sphygmomanometers and standard techniques according to international protocols.

Objective: To describe the adaptation to Portuguese of the short version of the "job stress scale", originally in English.

Methods: We evaluate six aspects of equivalence between the original scale and the Portuguese version: conceptual, semantic, operational, item, measurement, and functional equivalences. A reliability test-retest study was conducted with 94 selected subjects.

An analysis of the 1979-1997 historical series points to demographic and mortality trends in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro State, over the course of those two decades. There was a drop in the rate of population increase, with a significant change in the age structure. In the time series, there was a decline in mortality from cardiovascular diseases and an overall downward trend in mortality from infectious and parasitic diseases, albeit with a sharp increase beginning in 1996 resulting in a change in disease classification (ICD-9 to ICD-10).

Context: Epidemiological studies of the validity and reliability of self-reported information on important risk factors for non-communicable chronic diseases are scarce in Brazil.

Objective: We evaluated the test-retest reliability of information--overall and stratified by gender, age and education--on active and passive smoking, alcohol intake and aspects of dietary habits.

Type Of Study: Test-retest reliability.
