Veterinary oncology has experienced significant evolution over the last few decades, with chemotherapy being currently applied to several neoplasms with therapeutic success. Traditionally, chemotherapy protocols are based on classic cytostatic drugs under the concept of maximum tolerated dose (MTD), which has been associated with a greater risk of toxicity and resistance. Thus, new therapeutic alternatives have emerged, such as metronomic chemotherapy (MC), introducing a new paradigm in cancer treatment.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and outcomes of the surgical treatment for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) in stages III and IV by sacrospinous ligament fixation (SSLF) or uterosacral ligament suspension (USLS) by comparing anatomical and subjective cure rates and quality-of-life parameters (through the version validated for the Portuguese language of the Prolapse Quality of Life [P-QoL] questionnaire) under two definitions: genital prolapse Ba, Bp, and C < -1 (stage I) and Ba, Bp, and C ≤ 0 (stage II).
Materials And Methods: After we obtained approval from the Ethics Committee (under CAAE 0833/06) and registered the study in ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT01347021), 51 patients were randomized into two groups: the USLS group (N = 26) and the SSLF group (N = 25), with follow-up 6 and 12 months after the procedures.
Introduction: the dietary intake of individuals with phenylketonuria (PKU) may vary widely according to different cultural eating habits, lifestyle, access to multidisciplinary team, and metabolic formulas available. Thus, knowing the dietary intake of this population makes it possible to tailor nutritional treatment strategies to impact their health. Objective: to analyze the evidence on the dietary intake of individuals with PKU.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Measuring resting energy expenditure (REE) in individuals living with phenylketonuria (PKU) using indirect calorimetry (IC) is unusual in healthcare facilities because it requires specific protocols and expensive equipment. Considering that determining REE is crucial for devising nutritional strategies for the management of PKU, the aim of this study was to identify the predictive equations that provide the best estimates of REE in children and adolescents living with PKU and to propose a predictive equation for determining REE in this population.
Methods: An REE concordance study was conducted with children and adolescents living with PKU.

Few data from Latin American centers on clinical outcomes in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome who required extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) are published. Moreover, clinical and functional status after hospital discharge remains poorly explored in these patients. We evaluated in-hospital outcomes of severe COVID-19 patients who received ECMO support in two Brazilian hospitals.

Diagnostic histopathology plays a key role in the management of oral cancer and timely reports are essential. The aim of this study was to retrospectively compare the time interval between receipt of the specimen and issue of the histopathology report (the 'turnaround time', TT) of two types of oral cancer resections (mandibulectomies and glossectomies) and incisional biopsies from the tongue (n = 100 of each). The information documented included the number of days from receipt of the specimen until the sample was ready for reporting, and the number of subsequent days until the report was authorised by the pathologist.

Methods: The parents or guardians of the 135 children were asked about their children's eating habits and the family's socioeconomic and demographic conditions. Information regarding birth and health history were obtained from medical records.
Objective: To analyze the existing scientific literature to find out if the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has an effect on gynecological health.
Search Strategy: We performed an integrative review of articles published between April 2020 and April 2021 on the PubMed, SciELO, and LILACS databases, using and the following relevant terms: ; ; ; ; ; ; and .
Selection Criteria: Among the eligible studies found, editorials and primary research articles, which describe the dynamics between severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) infection (the cause of the COVID-19 pandemic) and gynecological health, were included.
Background And Aims: Considering that phenylalanine-poor diets may be monotonous and compromise the development and nutritional status of children and adolescents with phenylketonuria, the aim of this study was to evaluate the anthropometric and biochemical characteristics of children and adolescents with this condition.
Methods: Retrospective study with anthropometric and biochemical data collection from patients with phenylketonuria in the age group 2-19.9 years.
Objectives: To evaluate the bone mineral density (BMD) in children/adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and its association with the nutritional intake, metabolic control, and physical activity level of this population.
Methods: Study including 34 patients with T1DM and 17 controls. Assessments included the participants disease history, intake of macronutrient, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium, physical activity level, total body and lumbar spine BMD and serum levels of glycated hemoglobin, vitamin D, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, osteocalcin and C-terminal telopeptide.
This study investigated the toxicological, hematological and immunological effects of diets supplemented with levamisole and ivermectin on Colossoma macropomum. Fish were fed for 24, 96 and 240 h with diets containing 300, 600, 900 and 1200 mg of levamisole kg-1 of feed. None of the levamisole concentrations caused either mortality or behavioral alterations among the fish over 10 d of feeding.

Details of glyphosate uptake are not fully elucidated, and although this herbicide promotes important alterations in the plant phenotype few hours after its application (early responses), a detailed description of the presumable changes in plant anatomy is still poorly assessed by now. Due to glyphosate effects over leaf permeability, the use of an inert fluorescent tracer may allow the observation of the uptake event in situ. In addition, microscopic markers might put a light on the recognition of glyphosate-resistant (GR) and -susceptible (GS) species or varieties, which may vary in C3 and C4 species due to their putative distinct leaf anatomy.
