[Association between the degree of implementation of the Brazilian Breastfeeding Network and breastfeeding indicators].

This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of the Brazilian Breastfeeding Network and its impact on breastfeeding indicators. Implementation was analyzed according to type, including 56 primary healthcare units from three Brazilian municipalities. For evaluation of the degree of implementation, a score was created for each unit based on compliance with Ministry of Health certification criteria.

Influence of the support offered to breastfeeding by maternity hospitals.

Objective: To evaluate whether the support offered by maternity hospitals is associated with higher prevalences of exclusive and predominant breastfeeding.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study including a representative sample of 916 infants less than six months who were born in maternity hospitals, in Ribeirao Preto, Sao Paulo, Southeastern Brazil, 2011. The maternity hospitals were evaluated in relation to their fulfillment of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.

Severe lactational mastitis: particularities from admission.

Objective: to identify characteristics of women who have suffered severe lactational mastitis.

Method: a descriptive, retrospective, documentary, quantitative study was performed. Data were collected from patient records of 114 hospitalized women from January of 2009 to December of 2013.

Prevalence of anemia in children three to 12 months old in a health service in Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil.

Iron deficiency anemia is the most common nutritional deficiency among children. This cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative study is part of a multicenter project, which verified the prevalence of anemia in children aged three to 12 months, treated by a health service unit in Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil. Interviews with mothers and determining hemoglobin dosage were carried out with 121 children who participated in the study.

Women's social space and the reference for breastfeeding practice.

This study aimed to identify agents or institutions taken as reference by women when breastfeeding. A qualitative study was carried out on 20 primiparous who were assisted, for reasons not related to breastfeeding, in the five health services selected by this study. Data were collected by semi-structured interviews carried out in the participants' households and were analyzed by content analysis in the thematic mode.
