A new photoactive cobalt coordination compound, [Co(NH)NO]BrNO (I), was obtained. Its crystal structure was shown to be isostructural with previously known [Co(NH)NO]ClNO (II) for which linkage isomerization accompanied with mechanical response of the crystal has been already reported. Single crystals of I are transformed into nitrito isomer [Co(NH)ONO]BrNO (III) on irradiation with blue light (λ = 465 nm) without being destroyed.

This paper describes two basic elements of the smart technology, allowing us to bring to a new level the problem of early warning and mitigation of tsunami hazards for the so-called near zone events (when a destructive tsunami wave reaches the nearest coast in tens of minutes after the earthquake). The sensors system, installed in a reasonable way (to detect a wave as early as possible), is capable of transmitting the necessary raw data (measured wave profile) in a real time mode to a processing center. The smart (based on mathematical theory) algorithm can reconstruct an actual source shape within a few seconds using just a part of the measured wave record.

Production of rice grains at non-toxic levels of arsenic (As) to meet the demands of an ever-increasing population is a global challenge. There is currently a lack of investigation into integrated approaches for decreasing As levels in rice agro-ecosystems. By examining the integrated iron-modified rice hull biochar (Fe-RBC) and water management approaches on As dynamics in the paddy agro-ecosystem, this study aims to reduce As accumulation in rice grains.

The removal of inorganic arsenic (As) species from water using bone char pyrolyzed at 900 °C was investigated. Results revealed that the Sips model resulted in the best As(III) experimental data fit, while As(V) data were best represented by the Langmuir model. The adsorption rate and mechanisms of both As species were investigated using kinetic and diffusional models, respectively.

Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) hyphenated to High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Ion Chromatography (IC) are widely used for simultaneous speciation of arsenic (As). Longer retention time resulting in a slow separation is the major drawback of these existing approaches. Besides, fast separations achieved from HPLC based methods have always resulted in poor resolution and baseline separation between peaks.

Wendelstein 7-X, a superconducting optimized stellarator built in Greifswald/Germany, started its first plasmas with the last closed flux surface (LCFS) defined by 5 uncooled graphite limiters in December 2015. At the end of the 10 weeks long experimental campaign (OP1.1) more than 20 independent diagnostic systems were in operation, allowing detailed studies of many interesting plasma phenomena.

Coal seam (CS) gas operations coproduce water with gas from confined CS aquifers. This CS water represents a potential agricultural resource if the water is able to be chemically amended to comply with management guidelines. Stoichiometric quantities of sulphur and gypsum amendments can be used to neutralise the alkalinity and reduce the sodicity of CS water respectively.

The provision of quality end-of-life care is essential when a neonate is dying. End-of-life care delivered in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) must consider the needs of both the newborn and their family. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how comfort theory and its associated taxonomic structure can be used as a conceptual framework for nurses and midwives providing end-of-life care to neonates and their families.

Two novel oxonitridophosphates M2PO3N with M = Ca and Sr were synthesized under high-pressure high-temperature (7 GPa and 1100 °C) using the multianvil technique or by solid-state reaction in the silica ampules (1100 °C) from amorphous phosphorus oxonitride (PON) and the respective alkaline earth oxides MO (M = Ca, Sr). The products represent the first examples of alkaline earth ortho-oxonitridophosphates containing noncondensed [PO3N](4-) ions. The crystal structures were elucidated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Nitridophosphates MP2 N4 :Eu(2+) (M=Ca, Sr, Ba) and BaSr2 P6 N12 :Eu(2+) have been synthesized at elevated pressures and 1100-1300 °C starting from the corresponding azides and P3 N5 with EuCl2 as dopant. Addition of NH4 Cl as mineralizer allowed for the growth of single crystals. This led to the successful structure elucidation of a highly condensed nitridophosphate from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data (CaP2 N4 :Eu(2+) (P63 , no.

Isotypic imidonitridophosphates MH4P6N12 (M = Mg, Ca) have been synthesized by high-pressure/high-temperature reactions at 8 GPa and 1000 °C starting from stoichiometric amounts of the respective alkaline-earth metal nitrides, P3N5, and amorphous HPN2. Both compounds form colorless transparent platelet crystals. The crystal structures have been solved and refined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data.

Illumination sources based on phosphor-converted light emitting diode (pcLED) technology are nowadays of great relevance. In particular, illumination-grade pcLEDs are attracting increasing attention. Regarding this, the application of a single warm-white-emitting phosphor could be of great advantage.

Phosphorus nitride imide, PN(NH), is of great scientific importance because it is isosteric with silica (SiO2). Accordingly, a varied structural diversity could be expected. However, only one polymorph of PN(NH) has been reported thus far.

Benzoperylene derivatives with two angularly attached dicarboxylic imide rings, which were prepared by the Diels-Alder-reaction, exhibit strong fluorescence and their free peri positions allow either control of the UV/Vis spectra through their substituents or form anchor positions for the attachment of functional units. The angular chromophore 3 may be used both for fluorescent labeling such as for primary amines or enzymes or as building blocks for more complex assemblies where they may act as energy donors for FRET or electron acceptors in PET such as for photovoltaic solar cells.

Biological activity of ergomyogenic autoserum (EAS) is attributed to the presence of natural hormonal-neuropeptide complex. Its administration to 25 healthy volunteers and 20 patients with neurosensory hypoacusis stage I-II resulted in improvement of hearing acuity in all the subjects with normal hearing and in 75% of the patients. The autoserum usage instructions are provided.

Insulin-stimulated synthesis of plasma membraneous "signal" ATP (psATP) from ADP and P(i) in oxidation coupled with that of NADH was detected in a preparation of plasma membranes from human erythrocytes; psATP was formed at concentrations of 10(-8)-10(-9) M. Effect of medicinal plasmapheresis on ability of erythrocyte membranes to produce psATP was studied. The rate of psATP biosynthesis was estimated in healthy volunteers and in patients with various diseases: nonspecific aortic arteritis, bronchial asthma, peritonitis, myasthenia before and after plasmapheresis.

The effect of blood serum of patients with liver echinococcosis on the superoxide production by neutrophils of donors was studied. The patients observed were distributed to 2 groups: 1) those with uncomplicated disease and 2) those with festered cyst. Blood serum of patients with echinococcosis was proved to stimulate superoxide production by donor neutrophils by 107-483% in comparison with donor's serum.
