There is an increasing need for new biomarkers improving prediction of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). We aimed to identify blood-based epigenetic biomarkers associated with incident CKD and develop a methylation risk score (MRS) predicting CKD in newlydiagnosed individuals with T2D. DNA methylation was analysed epigenome-wide in blood from 487 newly-diagnosed individuals with T2D, of whom 88 developed CKD during 11.

Aim: This systematic review aimed to evaluate, by means of statistical comparison between selected studies, the effectiveness of laser irradiation on dental erosion applied alone or in combination with anti-erosive agents (fluoride, Acidulated phosphate fluoride APF and CPP-amorphous calcium fluoride phosphate CPP-ACFP), through optical profilometry and microhardness measurement.

Methods: The searching strategy was conducted according to the International PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, to answer research ques-tions regarding the effectiveness of lasers used in the context of dental erosion (such as Nd:YAG, CO2, Er:YAG, Er,Cr:YSGG, Diode, and Argon Ion lasers). A comprehensive and unrestricted sys-tematic searching was performed using the electronic databases of PubMed and Cochrane Library, for all articles published up to the end of January 2023.

Today, polymeric drug delivery systems (DDS) appear as an interesting solution against bacterial resistance, having great advantages such as low toxicity, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. In this work, two polyketones (PK) have been post-functionalized with sodium taurinate (PKT) or potassium sulfanilate (PKSK) and employed as carriers for Vancomycin against bacterial infections. Modified PKs were easily prepared by the Paal-Knorr reaction and loaded with Vancomycin at a variable pH.

Throughout the current COVID-19 pandemic, preventing nosocomial COVID-19 outbreaks has been a significant challenge for hospitals. It is essential to understand the ways in which SARS-CoV-2 spreads in healthcare settings to apply proper infection prevention and control (IPC) measures. The objectives of this study are to report on the hospital's response to a COVID-19 cluster and the transmission dynamics in a hospital ward of Geriatrics, Rehabilitation and Long term care.

In previous studies, we developed a hydrogel formulation containing silibinin-loaded pomegranate oil nanocapsules (HG-NCSB) that had improved in vivo anti-inflammatory action in comparison to non-encapsulated silibinin. To determine skin safety and whether the nanoencapsulation influences silibinin skin permeation, NCSB skin cytotoxicity, HG-NCSB permeation in human skin, and a biometric study with healthy volunteers were conducted. The formulation of nanocapsules was prepared by the preformed polymer method while the HG-NCSB was obtained by thickening the suspension of nanocarriers with gellan gum.

Dairy bulls in feedlots have been a viable alternative for dairy producers to reinforce the family's income. Aspects such as balanced diets and proper management are essential for these animals to develop and allow an economic return fully. Plant extracts are performance enhancers and ruminal and intestinal health promoters.

This study aimed to determine whether adding a blend based on zinc chloride and lignans from magnolia to the diet of broilers could replace conventional performance enhancers. For this study, 360 chickens were divided into four groups, with six repetitions per group (n = 15), as follows: CN, without promoter; GPC, control, 50 mg/kg of enramycin growth promoter; T-50, additive blend at a dose of 50 g/ton; and T-100, additive blend at a dose of 100 g/ton. Chickens fed with the additive blend at 50 g/ton showed a production efficiency index equal to that in the GPC group (p < 0.

Background: The first Covid-19 pandemic affected the epidemiology of several diseases. A general reduction in the emergency department (ED) accesses was observed during this period, both in adult and pediatric contexts.

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on the behalf of the Italian Society of Pediatric Nephrology (SINePe) in 17 Italian pediatric EDs in March and April 2020, comparing them with data from the same periods in 2018 and 2019.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a slowly progressive neurodegenerative disease conceptualized as a continuous process, ranging from mild cognitive impairment (MCI), to the mild, moderate, and severe clinical stages of AD dementia. AD is considered a complex multifactorial disease. Currently, the use of cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEI), such as tacrine, donepezil, rivastigmine, and galantamine, has been the main treatment for AD patients.

Objective: To implement and signify entrepreneurial interventions in Nursing, with a view to the social emancipation of women working in an Association of Recyclable Materials.

Method: Action-research with an intervention process based on an action alluding to Mother's Day, carried out in a pandemic period, with the participation of 28 women from a Recycling Association.

Results: The reflexive thematic analysis, which enabled the systematic recording of ideas, insights and the meanings of the intervention, gave rise to two categories: From apparent isolation to professional reinvention and from invisibility to dignity and the feeling of social equality.

Background: To evaluate the ability of Weighted-Incidence Syndromic Combination Antibiograms (WISCA) to inform the selection of empirical antibiotic regimens for suspected paediatric community-acquired urinary tract infections.

Methods: Data were collected from outpatients (< 15 years) accessing the emergency rooms of Padua University-Hospital and Mestre Dell' Angelo-Hospital (Venice) between January 1st, 2016, and December 31st, 2018. WISCAs were developed by estimating the coverage of eight regimens using a Bayesian hierarchical model adjusted for age, sex, and previous antibiotic treatment or renal/urological comorbidities.

Sander bite jumping appliance (BJA) is a functional appliance used to correct Class II malocclusion in growing patients. The aim of this study was to identify the dento-skeletal effects in patients treated with BJA before growth peak and to compare these effects with the ones obtained in a similar group treated with the Andresen activator (AA). Twenty subjects with class II relationship of the skeletal bases and cervical vertebrae maturation stage 1 or 2 were enrolled in the study and treated with BJA.

The synthesis of MUC1 glycopeptides bearing modified tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens (TACAs) represents an effective strategy to develop potential antitumor vaccines that trigger strong immune response. In this context, we present herein the multistep synthesis of the triazole glycosyl amino acid Neu5Ac-α/β2-triazole-6-βGalNAc-ThrOH 1 as STn antigen analog, along with its assembly on the corresponding MUC1 peptide to give NAcProAsp [Neu5Acα/β2-triazole-6-βGalNAc]ThrArgProGlyOH 2. Despite interacting differently with SM3 monoclonal antibody, as shown by molecular dynamic simulations, this unnatural triazole glycopeptide may represent a promising candidate for cancer immunotherapy.

Dystroglycanopathies are diseases characterized by progressive muscular degeneration and impairment of patient's quality of life. They are associated with altered glycosylation of the dystrophin-glycoprotein (DGC) complex components, such as α-dystroglycan (α-DG), fundamental in the structural and functional stability of the muscle fiber. The diagnosis of dystroglycanopathies is currently based on the observation of clinical manifestations, muscle biopsies and enzymatic measures, and the available monoclonal antibodies are not specific for the dystrophic hypoglycosylated muscle condition.
