The interaction of Ni with (6,0) and (8,0) zigzag carbon nanotube exterior surfaces containing two vacancies was studied using density functional theory (DFT). A two-vacancy defect was analysed in order to anchor Ni, and the pristine nanotube was also considered as a reference for each chirality. The adsorbed Ni stability and the nanotube's geometry and electronic structure were analysed before and after the adsorption.

Biodiesel despite its positive advantages when using it as a fuel in replacement of diesel, suffers a major drawback in the cold flow properties (CFP). During winters, plugging of the filters as well as crystallization of the fatty acid are two of the leading problems that makes the fuel to not reach injectors and the combustion chamber and therefore the engine does not start. Urbanization can cause innumerable abiotic and biotic changes that have the potential to influence the ecology, behavior, and physiology of native resident organisms. Relative to their rural conspecifics, urban Side-blotched Lizard (Uta stansburiana) populations in southern Utah have lower survival prospects and maximize reproductive investment via producing larger eggs and larger clutch sizes. While egg size is an important predictor of offspring quality, physiological factors within the egg yolk are reflective of the maternal environment and can alter offspring traits, especially during energetically costly processes, such as reproduction or immunity.

In this work, calculations based on the density functional theory (DFT) were applied to study the electronic properties of pristine and reduced TiO(B)(100) ultrathin sheets to evaluate their potential as a semiconductor material for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In vitro 3D culture models have emerged in the cancer field due to their ability to recapitulate characteristics of the in vivo tumor. Herein, we described the establishment and characterization of 3D multicellular spheroids using ovarian cancer cells (SKOV-3) in co-culture with mesenchymal cells (MUC-9) or fibroblasts (CCD27-Sk). Gliomas are primary brain tumors originating from glial cells, representing 30% of all Central Nervous System (CNS) neoplasia. Among them, the astrocytoma grade IV (glioblastoma multiforme) is the most common, presenting an invasive and aggressive profile, with an estimated life expectancy of about 15 months after diagnosis even after treatment with radiation, surgical resection, and chemotherapy. This poor prognosis is related to the presence of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and multidrug resistance mechanisms that prevent the uptake and retention of chemotherapeutics inside the brain.

Intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) lack stable tertiary structure under physiological conditions. The unique composition and complex dynamical behaviour of IDPs make them a challenge for structural biology and molecular evolution studies.
